Tina Brinson Sun May 18 09:02:52 1997 I am looking for information on George Washington Ballinger (Ballenger?) and Nancy Neal who were my great great grandparents. They were married in Russell Co., KY on 14 March 1878. George was born about 1855 in Russell Co. to Madison and Mary Ballinger. Per my great grandmother, Myrtie Ballinger-Godbey, George was 3/4 Indian (of what type, I don't know). The 1850 Census records confuse the issue even more, as Madison's last name was listed as Wooldridge and he and Mary Ballinger were living in the Nancy Wooldridge household with George's older brother Cyrus (then 5 months). Nancy Neal was born about 1860 in Tennessee to Robert and Emaline Neal. Because of a childhood injury, Nancy had "fits" (epilepsy?) and was committed to an institution somewhere in Kentucky after 1910 - where she passed away. George also died sometime after 1910. I would like to find out where George and Nancy are buried and verify George's Indian lineage. Any and all information on the above persons would be greatly appreciated.

PAT HIGLEY Wed 30 Jul 15:08:07 97 I am seeking information on Shelby S. Vanhoy born Kentucky 1857. His mother married a Jesse Briley from Kentucky. The 1880 census for Umatilla Co. Oregon lists his mother's first name as Dorinda. They came west in 1864. I do not know what county he was born in but there is a Shelby S. VanHoy in the 1860 census in Russell Co. Kentucky. This Shelby S. VanHoy has a different birth date and the mother wasn't married to Jesse Briley. But having the same name and same state makes me think there is a connection. He married Lavina Coffey who was born about 1804 in Illinois. It is believed his father was Jesse Combs and his mother's maiden name was Frost. According to family information Simeon lived in Russell County until the late 1840's when he moved to Crittenden County, Kentucky. In the late 1850's Simeon and his wife Lavina moved to southeast Kansas before statehood, living in unorganized indian territory.
