Why Participate?
Every county site, obituary transcription, cemetery list, and courthouse record exists because someone stepped forward to help. You do not have to be a technical expert or long-time researcher. If you have an interest in genealogy, local history, or simply want to keep these resources free and online, there is a place for you here.
What You Gain
As a participant, you become part of a community that values Kentucky’s history and wants to make it available to others. You receive support from the KYGenWeb State Coordinator team, access to templates and tools, and the satisfaction of knowing your work helps researchers today and in the future.
Ways You Can Help
County Coordinator
County Coordinators adopt a county site and help keep it active.
You gather and post material, organize pages, and serve as a
contact for questions about that county. We provide templates,
guidance, and ongoing support.
Many people hesitate because they think they must already know
HTML or commit many hours each week. That is not required. You do
not need special software, advanced technical skills, or deep
knowledge of a county to get started. We will help you learn what
you need to know, step by step.
Co-Coordinator
Co-Coordinators share the work with an existing coordinator. You might handle a specific section, such as obituaries, local history, or you might help with updates as time allows. This can be a good way to learn before you adopt a county yourself.
Content Contributor
Not everyone wants to manage a website. You can still contribute by sharing material such as family photos, obituaries, family group sheets, transcriptions, or local history items. We can help get your contributions posted to the appropriate county pages.
