Deed 1814

between
Anthony Thorntown and Mary his wife of the County of Harrison one part
and
Mordica McKinzey of the County of Bracken of the other part.


The following is a deed recorded in Book, page 48, in Bracken County and reads as follows:

This indenture made the first day of June in the year of our Lord 1814, between
Anthony Thorntown and Mary his wife of the County of Harrison of the one part
and Mordica McKinzey of the County of Bracken of the other part. Witnesseth, that the said
Anthony and Mary his wife for and in consideration of one hundred and fifty dollars to them in hand paid
the receipt where of they do here by acknowledge and forever aquit the said Mordica and they the said
Anthony and Mary his wife hath this day bargained and sold and by these presents do grant give bargain
sell alien and confirm unto the said Mordica Mackinsey and his heirs forever one certain tract or parcel
of land, situated, lying and being in the county of Bracken and on the North Fork Licking, being a part
of said Anthony's Survey of 33,750 acres, containing by estimation, one hundred and sixteen acres be the
same less a more, and bounded as follows to wit: Beginning at three white oaks on the bank of the creek
running thence down the said creek N46, W 200 poles to a hickery and sugartree thence N. 50. W 9 1/2 poles
to a real oak and locust thence N. 63. W. 17 poles to a sugar tree thence N. 69 West 14 1/2 poles to two sugar
trees thence N70 W 14 poles to a hickery thence N 65 W 16 poles a hickery at the mouth of a ____,
where it enters into said creek and thence N 110 poles to three white oaks and four small hickerys
Johnathan Stouts beginning corner thence south seventy Dyes East 160 poles to a mulberry real oak sugar tree
thence S 31 West 162 poles to the Beginning which said tract a parcel of land with the appertuences there unto
belonging or in any wise appertaining, with the exception that Elijah Thornton is at all times here after
to be allowed the privilege of canoeing a ferry boat on the said without hinderance or malistation from
the said McKinzey his heirs and assigns, and the said tract of land they the said Anthony and Mary his
wife for them selves and their heirs and all persons claiming by from or under them and no further, to the
said Mordica MacKinsey his heirs and assigns forever, shall and will warrant and ______.


In witness where of the said Anthony Thornton and Mary his wife hath here unto set their hands
and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.

Bracken County Court clerk office March the 4th, 1815. This deed of bargain and sale from
Anthony Thornton and Mary Thorton his wife to Mordica McKinsey was this day acknowledged me of the said
Thornton and wife to be their act and deed and the said Mary being examined by me for ___ and apart from the
said Anthony her husband as the law directs, declared that she acted freely and willingly and volintarily
relinquish her right of dower to the previous written mentioned, without the threats or persuations of her said
husband, and the same persuant to the act of assembly is certified their under my hand as deputy for
William Garrison clerk of said court the date above written.

This deed of bargin and sale from Anthony Thornton and wife to Mordica McKenzey was this
day produced me in my office with the certificate of authintication thereon entered was ordered to be recorded
which are done accordingly. Given under my hand as deputy clerk for John Payne clerk of our said court.

On 27 November 1786, Anthony Thornton was granted 33,750 acres
in what was then Fayette County, Virginia (Kentucky since 1792) on Johnston Fork bearing the survey date
of 21 December 1784. Survey in Book 7, page 214/5 and grant in Book 10, pages 414/5. This could be the
Col. Anthony Thornton Jr., born 1 Feb 1748, who died 21 Dec 1828, who was married to Mary Rootes and fought in
the Revolutionary War out of Virginia. (Master Index Virginia Surveys and Grants 1774-1791, compiled by
Joan E. Brookes-Smith, Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort, 1976). The Jonathan Stout was probably the Jonathan
Stout born 24 June 1764, Hopewell Twp, Hunterdon Co., New Jersey who died in Mason County 28 August 1819.
