Humphrey, Mary Elizabeth

Mrs. Mary Humphrey, 87, Dies in Cleaton

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Humphrey, 87, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Evan Welborn in Cleaton, at 1:10 a.m., Monday, February 2, after a long illness. She was a member of the Paradise Baptist Church. Born at Paradise, Novemer 16, 1865, she was a member of one of the pioneer families in that section.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Paradise Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Bozarth, assisted by the Rev. Leonard Young, pastor of the Cleaton Baptist Church. Burial was in the Smith Cemetery.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. George O'Neal of Central City, Mrs. Welborn, and Mrs. Nell Thurman of Drakesboro, Route 1; son, W.S. Humphrey of Brownsville; five sisters, Mrs. Daisy Heck, Mrs. Sherman Tunstill, Mrs. Clarence Heltsley, Mrs. Delmar Cavanaugh, all of Paradise, Mrs. E. S. Prine of Chicago; two brothers, Leonard Smith and Carlos Smith, both of Drakesboro; 11 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Grandsons and nephews were pallbearers.

W.S. Humphrey, 86, Dies Jan. 25

Beaver Dam - William Smith Humphrey, 86, of Beaver Dam, died at 2:15 p.m., Monday, January 25 [1971] at his residence. Born June 18, 1885 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Paradise Baptist Church and Brownsville Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Anna Lena Humphrey; two daughters; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Thurman of Island, Mrs. Dee O'Neal and Mrs. Isodore Welborn of Central City; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services were at 11 a.m., Wednesday in Beaver Dam with burial in Rochester Cemetery.
