These brothers were the children of Leonard Lyons Brierly and Nancy Smitson Brierly of Bracken/Robertson County. Leonard, their father who died in 1861, was a cabinet maker who lived near Kentontown.
The Brierlys later settled in Nicholas County. Robert and his wife, Rebecca Ward Brierly, are buried in the Brierly family cemetery near Barterville.
These brothers were the children of Leonard and Nancy Ann Smitson Brierly of Robertson/Bracken County.
Their grandparents were Henry Smitson and Teka Anne Moreland Smitson of Bracken County.
