Franklin County roots and Shelby County legacy
According to Franklin County Vital Statistics, William "Billy" Marian Brawner, son of John Brawner and Ann Warfield, was born on 9 September 1857 in Franklin County, Kentucky. Billy married Mary "Mollie" Babbit, daughter of James and Mary Babbit, in Franklin County on 11 January 1881. The family is listed on the 1900 Franklin County census for the Flat Creek District.
The Shelby County death certificate for William Brawner states he was a widowed, retired farmer, born 31 August 1853 (conflicting with vital statistics) in Franklin County. He died of heart disease in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Kentucky, on 11 April 1943, and was buried in the Grove Hill Cemetery on 13 April 1943. The informant was his son, Harrison Brawner.
Mary "Mollie" Babbitt died in Shelby County on 3 September 1942 and is buried beside her husband in the Grove Hill Cemetery.
