Thomas Poindexter Family
Pioneers of Franklin County, Kentucky
Thomas Poindexter, Sr., son of John Poindexter and Lucy Christian Poindexter, was born about 1730 in Louisa County, Virginia. He married Lucy Jones (c. 1751). Thomas arrived in Fayette County by February 1790 and was in Franklin County by 1795. He died in Franklin County before 12 December 1796; his will (recorded in Will Book 1, page 7) was probated on 20 December 1796.

Notes on Lucy Jones' Parentage
There is ongoing research regarding Lucy Jones' parentage. While some early records suggest she was the daughter of Captain Gabriel Jones and Margaret Strother, recent research by genealogists (including Barb Petty) suggests she was the daughter of Gabriel Jones of Culpeper and his wife Mary Johnston Edmondson. This is supported by legal documentation involving the distribution of the Edmondson estate to children of Mary's second marriage, including Lucy Poindexter.

Gabriel Poindexter (son of Thomas and Lucy) was in Franklin County by 1797. Several daughters married in Franklin County:
- Lucy Poindexter married William S. Underwood, 21 July 1802.
- Harriet Poindexter married Felix Lane, 16 June 1811.
- Molly Poindexter married Elijah Green, 29 September 1811.
