John Chapman Herndon Family
Legal and civic service in Frankfort and Franklin County
John Chapman Herndon, son of Alvin and Susan, was born on 15 September 1809 in Fauquier County, Virginia. He married Margaret Jane Clarke (daughter of Joseph Clarke and Harriet Julian) with a marriage bond recorded on 10 October 1839 in Franklin County, Kentucky.
John had a distinguished career in public service: he served as Frankfort/Franklin County Clerk (1836), County Attorney (1839), and was elected County Judge in 1851. He died of pneumonia in Franklin County on 25 March 1856. His will is recorded in Franklin County Will Book 3, page 11. Margaret Clarke Herndon (born 13 October 1817) died on 15 July 1860. Both are buried in Section M of the Frankfort Cemetery.

John Chapman Herndon, Jr.
Married Juliana Whitcroft Dimmitt on 17 December 1862 in Mason County, KY. In 1884, John served as Vice-President of Bradley & Gilbert Company in Louisville. Juliana died 22 March 1910. Both are buried in the family plot at the Frankfort Cemetery.
Margaret J. "Maggie" Herndon
Married Dr. Archibald Dixon, Jr. (son of Archibald and Elizabeth Robertson Cabell Dixon) on 14 December 1864. Dr. Dixon was a physician in Henderson, Kentucky. They raised four children: Wynn, Archibald, Maggie, and Julia.

Felicia Clarke Herndon
Married Rev. Epaphroditus "Paph" Julian on 1 February 1856. They lived in Madison, South Dakota for one year, where children Margaret and John Herndon Julian attended the University of South Dakota. Margaret married William Edom Lattin. Both Felicia and Paph (who died 15 February 1925) are buried in the Frankfort Cemetery.
