Abel Jenkins, Sr. Family
Settlement in Mercer, Shelby, and Franklin Counties
Abel Jenkins, Sr., son of Jonathon Jenkins, Sr. and Margaret, was born about 1779, likely in Virginia. He arrived in Mercer County, Kentucky, with his parents prior to 1790.
He married Elizabeth Tracy (born c. 1789, daughter of George Tracey, Sr. and Cealey) on 25 March 1805 in Garrard County. After residing in Shelby County, where he purchased land on Brashear Creek, the family returned to Mercer County before settling permanently in the Bridgeport area of Franklin County in 1833. He purchased 260 acres on Benson Creek that same year. Abel died prior to 16 January 1849.

Married Janette "Jane" Edwards (daughter of Benjamin Edwards) on 3 July 1834 in Franklin County. Children: Rebecca, Elizabeth "Mollie", Martha J., Margaret, Maria, James, and Benjamin.
John Jenkins
Married Eliza Parrent on 29 October 1832 in Franklin County. Both are buried in the Jenkins Family Graveyard at Bridgeport. Children: Martha A., John W., Mary E., Margaret D., Drucilla, Davideller, Rosalina, Susan H., and Alexander.
Stephen Jenkins
Married Mary Bailey (daughter of Shelah Bailey) on 2 September 1837 in Franklin County. They raised five boys and six girls.
Abel Jenkins, Jr.
Married Susan Scott Samples on 3 June 1847 in Shelby County. Buried in Graefenburg Cemetery, Shelby County. Children: George W., Sarah L., John, Ella M., and an unnamed infant.

Married Martha Anderson Miller (daughter of Aaron Miller and Mary "Polly" Zook) on 21 November 1844 in Franklin County. Migrated to Fremont, Iowa.
