My Dear Son,

Having to develop Mrs. Campbell's letter, I will just say we are all well. We have not heard from you since the 23rd Nov., tho several letters have been received from Jallappa. We are very anxious to hear from you. Miller was elected Clerk on Monday in place of C. B. Dallam, dec'd. P. Watking and Mark Tyler were his opponents. The Whigs hold a convention at Frankfort on the 22nd Feby. to nominate candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor. Dickson or Graves will be the nominee. The Legislature has unanimously invited Sid Taylor to visit Frankfort during the session of that body. Several of the State Legislatures have nominated him for President. The old Mr. Edson, 85 years old, married a few days since, to a woman that had lived with him for many years. Her name I do not know. They had quite a jollification. The friends are as well as usual. I have wrote you twice. I hope you rec'd my letters. Tell Monroe that Daws married Tuesday to Henry Cherry's daughter. You may tell Shipley, his family are well and are going to move to Hopkins in a few days. I have advised his niess (?) otherwise. We send our love to you hoping you are well and that you may soon safely return. I remain affectionately your Father. Wm Mercer

PS I will write you soon at more length
