Using Image Types
County sites use a mix of backgrounds and layouts, so sharing images in multiple file
formats helps volunteers use the version that looks best on their pages. Each format
behaves a little differently, and the notes below explain how to pick the right one.
PNG files have transparent backgrounds, so they blend smoothly into any
page color. These are usually the best choice for most county sites.
GIF files also support transparency, but because they use a limited
color palette, the artwork may look less vibrant than the PNG versions.
JPG files do not support transparency. They include a white
background and should only be used on pages that already have a white background.
