Tollgate House
At the Nicholas-Bourbon line stands this tollgate house. The "Maysville, Washington, Paris and
Lexington Turnpike Co." was chartered in 1872.
In the late 1890's people rebelled against the tollgate system. By 1900 practically all the "gates" in Kentucky
were
abolished and the roads made free to travelers.
