Stone Tavern

Built in 1807, this stone house once served as a way station and tavern for stage coach and horseback travelers. This inn and stopping place was an important point on "Smith's Waggon-Road" and the Ohio-to-Alabama mail stagecoach line. Across the road formerly stood Nicholas County's first courthouse, in use from 1806 through 1816.
