Pre-War Profession Graduated West Point 1825, artillery duty, Black Hawk war, Seminole war, Mexican war, commanded forts in Charleston Harbor in 1860-61. War Service 1861 Maj., Fort Sumter (s), May 1861 Brig. Gen. of Regulars, commanded in Depts of Kentucky and the Cumberland, 1863 retired through ill health, raised the Stars and Stripes at Fort Sumter when it was recaptured. Brevet Promotions Maj. Gen.
