Kennedy, Sam

Sam Kennedy, 68, of Greenville, Dies

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon for Sam Kennedy, 68, at his home in Greenville. Mr. Kennedy died at the Illinois Central Hospital in Paducah, from complications following the amputation of an infected toe. He had been a section foreman on the Illinois Central for 40 odd years.

Surviving are his wife and ten children, seven sons and three daughters. Seven of the boys are in the Armed Forced, two being overseas. Two were home for the funeral.

Burial was in the Depoy Cemetery.

Kipling, Cynthia Tunstill

Mrs. Cynthia Tunstill Kipling, age 70 years, died at her home near Drakesboro, March 13, [1943], at 8:30 a.m. after a lingering illness. She was married to George S. Kipling, February 14, 1893, who passed away five years ago. To this union two sons were born, Robert E. and Charles. Besides the sons, she leaves nine grandchildren and one great grandson; also two brothers, Sherman and Charlie Tunstill and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted March 15 at Paradise Baptist Church by Rev. O.L. Weir of Madisonville, assisted by Rev. M.V. Cotton of Greenville, with burial in Weir Cemetery. Mrs. Kipling lived her entire life in the neighborhood in which she was born. She professed faith in Christ at an early age and was an active member of the Drakesboro Methodist Church as long as health permitted. She was kind and generous and loved by all her friends and neighbors.

Kirtley, Harlan W.

Harland W. Kirtley, 81, Buried Today

Drakesboro - Harlan W. Kirtley, 81, died at his home in Drakesboro Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8:30 a.m. of a lingering illness. He was born in Muhlenberg County Dec. 10, 1878.

Mr. Kirtley was a member of the Paradise Baptist Church where funeral services are being conducted today (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m., the Rev. S.A. Kittinger, Bremen, officiating. The Rev. George Archer, pastor of the Drakesboro Baptist Church, will assist. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Maggie Kirtley; daughter, Mrs. Mary Jernigan of Powderly; four sons, Howard Kirtley of Central City, James Kirtley of Drakesboro, Ray Kirtley of Louisville, Wilbur Kirtley of Gary, Ind.; brother, Harry Kirtley of Central City Route 2; 10 grandchildren.

Kittinger, Edna

Mrs. Frank Kittinger, 79, Dies in California

Long Beach, Calif. - Mrs. Edna Kittinger, 82, widow of the late Frank Kittinger and a former resident of Central City, died March 19 in a hospital in Long Beach, Calif.

Surviving are a son, Melvin Kittinger of Long Beach; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Golden Gate Cemetery, Long Beach, Friday, March 22.

Mrs. Gilbert Fleming of Powderly, Mrs. Mary Powell, of Greenville and Mrs. Ethel Hendricks of Bremen are her nieces. Roy and Denzil Noffsinger of Central City and Joe Noffsinger of Detroit, Mich. are nephews.

Knight, Edward Ray

Beech Creek - Rev. Edward Ray Knight, 63, of Route 1, Beech Creek, died on Thursday, June 17, 1993 at 1:50 p.m. at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

Rev. Knight was born in Muhlenberg County on November 6, 1929. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and retired from Union Tank Car.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Knight of Beech Creek; two sons, Paul Knight of Jeffersonville, IN, and Marvin Knight of Beech Creek; two daughters, Rita McQuady of Greenville and Ellen Buchanan of Browder; six grandchildren; three brothers, John Knight of Calhoun, William “Happy” Knight and Chester Knight, both of Beech Creek; and a sister Geneva Mae Joines of Beech Creek.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. James Shutt officiating. Burial was in Wyatts Chapel Cemetery.

Knight, Ora Jane

Mrs. Skimehorn's Mother, 85, Dies

Mrs. Ora Jane Knight, 85, formerly of the Nortonville community, died in Ohio County Hospital in Hartford at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7.

She was born in Salem on July 8, 1888 and had lived in Lake View Nursing Home in Morgantown for the past several years.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Eunice Skimehorn of Central City Route 2; son, James Edward Knight of Mannington; 10 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; sister, Mrs. Anna Morton of Lola, Ky.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday in Nortonville by the Rev. Dwight Small with burial in Good Hope Cemetery.
