Atkinson Cemetery
Location
From Greenville, Kentucky take Highway 62W to Highway 189. Turn left and go about 8 miles to Eli Lane, close to the Muhlenberg-Christian County line.
Turn right on Eli Lane and go about .03 miles. Turn left on an old dirt road just after you pass two mobile homes on the left and before you get to a locked gate. You will have to park here and walk back into the woods. After you start walking, you will turn right at the next dirt road. After a few yards, you will turn right again. The cemetery is about ¼ mile from Eli Lane.

- Atkinson. Unmarked grave. Raymond Eddie Atkinson purportedly had a child buried at Atkinson Cemetery. Notes are unclear whether the child was by his first wife Gertrude Fox or his second wife Laura Pettygrove.
- Atkinson, America. Born 27 Aug 1844. Died 18 Nov 1844. Unmarked grave. Daughter of John S. Atkinson & Lurana Bass.
- Atkinson, Emely J. Died 13 July 1855. Inscription: Daughter of John S. & Luraney Atkinson. Aged 15 yrs., 5 mths., 5 ds. Gravestone.
- Atkinson, J.S. Born 6 July 1837. Died 18 Jan 1920. Gravestone.
- John Swann Atkinson Jr. was the son of John Swann Atkinson and Lurana Bass. He married (1) Mary Jane Prowse, 20 Mar 1862, in Muhlenberg County. Mary was born 1836, and died 25 Sept 1866. She was the daughter of George O. Prowse & Polly Wells, and is buried at Prowse Cemetery. Atkinson then married (2) Rosalind Sarah Jerrdon Reddick, 22 Jan 1869, in Hopkins County.

- Atkinson, John Swann. Born about 1799. Died 8 Dec 1866. No marker.
- John Swann Atkinson Sr. was born about 1799 in North Carolina and died 8 December 1866, age 67. He was the son of Elisha Atkison. His mother is believed to have been a Swann. John Swann Atkinson and Lurana Bass married 27 Feb 1834, in Christian County, Kentucky. He is buried at Atkinson Cemetery but no marker; also concrete has been poured over grave to create walkway.
- Atkinson, Lewis. Born 27 Aug 1894. Died 27 Aug 1894. Unmarked grave. Son of John S. Atkinson Jr. and Rosalind Reddick.
- Atkinson, Lurana Bass. Died 17 July 1862. No marker.
- Lurana Bass Atkinson died 17 July 1862, age 45. She was the daughter of Jordan Bass and Nancy Webb. John Swann Atkinson and Lurana Bass married 27 Feb 1834, in Christian County, Kentucky. She is buried at Atkinson Cemetery but no marker; also concrete has been poured over grave to create walkway.

- Rosalind Sarah Jerrdon Reddick was the daughter of Newton Blackburn Reddick (1803, Tennessee - 1877, Kentucky) and Mary Jane Wadley Parrish (1815, Tennessee - 1900, Kentucky). She married John Swann Atkinson Jr., 22 Jan 1869, in Hopkins County.

- Atkinson, Richard. Born 18 May 1863. Died 20 Sept 1876. Unmarked grave. Son of John S. Atkinson Jr. and Mary Jane Prowse. He may be buried here or at Prowse Cemetery.
- Harris, Jennie Bell. Born 3 June 1864. Died 3 Dec 1900. Unmarked grave.
- Known as “Bob,” Jennie Bell Harris was the daughter of John S. Atkinson Jr. and Mary Jane Prowse. She married William Hardin Harris, 10 Apr 1884, in Muhlenberg County. William Harris (1857 - 1897) was the son of Jesse B. Harris & Elizabeth A. Oates. Information comes from Margaret Prowse Mason.

- Stivers, Allie. Born 1896. Died 1898. Unmarked grave. Son of Jacob Neal Stivers and Emma Atkinson.
History & Condition
Elisha Atkinson settled this land about 1805. The land remained in the Atkinson family until sometime in the 1930s. There are several field stone markers scattered through the woods. It is believed that these stones are probably Elisha Atkinson's and John Swann Atkinson Sr.'s families.
Sometime in the 1940s, Raymond Eddie Atkinson, son of John Swann Atkinson Jr. and Rosalind Atkinson, had the cement poured for the walkway to enclose the stone for J.S., R.J. and six sandstone markers. There are two other stones still standing.
Raymond Eddie Atkinson and Emma Stivers moved to California with their families.
