BARRETT, Ralph Wesley August 30, 1930 - March 24, 2010 US Army Veteran Ralph W. Barrett, 79, of Stanford died Wednesday, March 24th at his home. He was born August 30, 1930 in Hawkins County, TN to the late Richard Clarence and Mary Alice Jones Barrett. He was a farmer and a former truck driver for Allen Company. He was an Army veteran, a member of John Logan Post # 345 American Legion and Blue Lick Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Flora VonLinger Barrett of Stanford; two daughters Joan Cornelius and Vicky King (Steve) both of Stanford; one brother Clarence Barrett (Faye) of Danville; 5 sisters Imogene Dawson and Ann Sears (Don) both of Stanford, Burnadine Chadwick (Gerald) of Georgia, Wanda Tebo of Florida and Theo Davidson of Tennessee; 4 grandchildren Stacy Godby, Jamie Cornelius, Kacy Mullins Smith and Anthony Cornelius; 2 step grandsons Jason and Daniel King; 5 great-grandchildren; He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-9, Funeral Service will be 2 P.M. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Stephens officiating.

BEESON, Lillie F. Gadberry Adams April 07, 1930 - 10 Aug 2006 Lillie F. Beeson, 76, Crawfordsville, died 11:55 p.m. Thursday at St. Clare Medical Center.Mrs. Beeson was a housewife. Her memberships included Garfield Apostolic Christian Church and formerly attended Freedom Baptist Church. She was born April 7, 1930, at Waynesburg, Ky., to Elijah and Myrtle Dowell Gadberry. She attended Lincoln County Kentucky Schools. She married Henry Ray Addams July 21, 1951. he died Sept. 19, 1991. She married Richard Beeson Aug. 14, 1995. He survives. Also surviving are daughters Brenda Clayton (Jerry Rayburn), Garland, Texas, and Peggy (Daniel) Smith, Crawfordsville; step-daughter Terri (Jr.) Wilson, Crawfordsville; step-son Timothy Beeson, Crawfordsville; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Shoemaker Funeral Home, 202 Bratton Road, Waynetown, with the Rev. Vernon Dowell officiating.

BLANTON, Lena Oaks July 16, 1928 - December 22, 2007 Lena Blanton, 79, Crawfordsville, died Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. Mrs. Blanton was a homemaker for many years and worked for Sommer Metal craft for more than 20 years. Her memberships included Friendship Baptist Church. She was born July 16, 1928, in Lincoln, Ky., to Jim and Bertie Dowell Oaks. She attended school in Lincoln County. She married Charles W. Blanton Jan. 3, 1946, in Crab Orchard, Ky. He died Sept. 13, 1987.

Survivors include son Leroy (Rita) Blanton, Waveland; daughters Brenda M. (Robert) Edwards, Crawfordsville, Judy (Jerry) Stringfield, Crawfordsville, Rosy (Gary) Hart, Crawfordsville, and Gayle (Randy) Adams, Galveston; son Charles (Devone) Blanton Jr., New Ross; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; two daughters; one son; two sisters; and her parents.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday in Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Vernon Dowell officiating.

BOYD, Patrick March 17, 1961 - March 07, 2010 STANFORD — Patrick Boyd, 48, of Meadowbrooks Road, Stanford, died Sunday. Born Friday, March 17, 1961, in Troy, Ohio, he was the son of Raymond E. “Gene” and Nancy Crawford Boyd of Stanford. Other survivors include two sons, Shawn (Bethany) Boyd and Chris Boyd, both of Lancaster; a brother, Todd Boyd of Stanford; a sister, Tanya (Tom) Gehlhausen of Stanford; two grandchildren; and a special friend, Lisa Herring of Stanford. Services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, Stanford. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the church. BREWER, Lavenia Ballard March 26, 1922 - March 16, 2010 STANFORD — Lavenia Brewer, 87, of Stanford, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Born Sunday, March 26, 1922, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late Mason and Lula “Kate” Hawley Ballard. She was a seamstress with Goodall/Palm Beach in Danville for 36 years and a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church. Lavenia loved reading her Bible, sewing and quilting, and she enjoyed her family gatherings. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Raymond Brewer.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Brewer of Stanford and his wife Sue; her daughters, Sonja Hasty of McKinney and her husband John, and Delores French of Tucson, Ariz., and her husband Ralph; seven grandchildren, Mickale Sowers, Michelle Hefner, Chris French, Ralph French Jr., Rodney Brewer, Gwen Underwood and Bobby Hasty; 16 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. An Appreciation of Life Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, at Fox Funeral Home by Bro. Wayne Stephens, with burial to follow in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. BUNCH, Christine May 22, 1924 - February 19, 2010 Christine Bunch, 85 of Waynesburg passed away on Friday, February 19th, 2010 in Kissimmee FL. She was born Thursday, May 22nd, 1924 in Waynesburg daughter of the late Ward & Sarah Smith Bunch. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star 501, and the Red Hat Society of Waynesburg.

Survivors include one son, Steve A. Leach and his wife Nancy of Kissimmee, Florida, two grandsons Kevin & Aaron Leach; a nephew Kenneth G. Bunch of Forsyth, Georgia and his sons Kenny Bunch of Colorado and William Bunch of Athens Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Virginia and Verna Bunch; two brothers Raymond & Ray Bunch; and a nephew Mark Bunch.

CHILDERS, Homer July 19, 1952 - March 01, 2010 STANFORD — Homer Childers, 57, of Crab Orchard died Monday. Born July 19, 1952, in Roxana, Ky., he was a son of the late Joseph Burley and Hettie Mae Shell Childers.

Survivors include his brothers, James Childers of Crab Orchard, Freddie Childers of Hope, Ind., and Joseph Burley Childers Jr. of Hardinsburg; sisters, Corrine Zabala and Selena Childers, both of Crab Orchard, and Sophia Critney of Columbus, Ohio. DOWELL, Hubert May 23, 1935 - February 14, 2010 CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Hubert Dowell, 74, of Crawfordsville, Ind., died Sunday at St. Clare Medical Center. Mr. Dowell enjoyed fishing, working with his hands and building things, including the kitchen cabinets in his own home. He worked for Crawfordsville Casket Co., Sommer Metalcraft, Impex and metal forming in Russellville. He was a member of the New Ross Country Club and attended Friendship Baptist Church. Born May 23, 1935 in Crab Orchard, Ky., he was the son of Virgil and Ira Padgett Dowell. He attended Chestnut Ridge School in Crab Orchard. He married Rosalie Blanton Dowell on Jan. 16, 1965, in his brother’s home in Crawfordsville. She survives. Additional survivors include four daughters, Ronda Blanton of Louisville, Ky., Vonda (Brian) Shively, Angie (Brian) Watkins and Susan (David) Chambers, all of Crawfordsville; a brother Robert (Shirley) Dowell of LaPorte, Ind.; grandsons, Carl Woodrum, Tory and Brennan Shively, Dustin Hubert and Brian Watkins; granddaughters, Stephanie (Kyle) VanCleave, Megan and Danielle Chambers; a great-granddaughter, Amy Nicole VanCleave; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, great-great-nephews and lots of friends. He also has two half-sisters, Debbie (Gary) Symonds and Kathy (Palmer) Rogers, and one half-brother, Mike Dowell, all of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Melissa Oaks and Bertha Smith; and four brothers, Craig, John, Dock and Dan Dowell. Family and friends can pay their respects from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Dr. Curtis Brouwer and the Rev. Vernon Dowell officiating.

DOWELL, Luther "Ted" January 27, 1928 - December 28, 2001 US Army, Korea Luther "Ted" Dowell, 73, Darlington, died Friday in his residence. Mr. Dowell owned Polar Ice Co., Crawfordsville, and retired from Commercial Fitters, Lebanon. He was affiliated with Garfield Apostolic Church and attended Kentucky schools. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was born Jan. 27, 1928, at Crab Orchard, Ky., to Leonard and Mary Oaks Dowell. He married Norma Hutchens on May 31, 1958, at Darlington. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Terri Sloan, Lebanon, and Tammy Goldsby, Hazel Dowell and Viola Long, all of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Homer, Crawfordsville, and William, Waynesburg, Ky.; three sisters, Lucy Denson, Stanford, Ky., and Elsie Moore and Bernice Britton, both of Waynesburg; and 10 grandchildren. Two daughters and three brothers are deceased.

Funeral services are scheduled 2 p.m. Monday in Burkhart Funeral Home, 300 S. Grant Ave., Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Jeffery Long officiating.

DOWELL, Vernon Eugene October 17, 1937 - February 13, 2004 US Marine Corp Veteran Vernon Eugene Dowell, 66, Crawfordsville, died approximately 2 p.m. Friday in his residence. Mr. Dowell was a truck driver. He served in the Marine Corp. and was a 1953 Crawfordsville High School graduate. He was born Oct. 17, 1937, at Waynesburg, Ky., to Craig and Sarah Bernard Dowell.

Survivors include a brother, Melvin, Morristown, Ind.; two sisters, Minnie Watt, Crawfordsville, and Lou Emberton, Rockville; and a daughter, Laura, Indianapolis. The body was cremated. ELAM, Shelia D. Simpson December 26, 1952 - March 06, 2010 Shelia Diane Simpson Elam, 58, of Dave Hyatt Road, Lancaster, passed away Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born Dec. 26, 1951, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of Martha DeBord Simpson of Stanford and the late Denver Simpson. She was a homemaker and a retired Whirlpool employee. She also was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Brown. Other survivors include her husband, Donald W. Elam of Lancaster; two sons, Wendell Moier (Shirley) Anderson Jr. of Harrodsburg and Dakota Davis of Lancaster; a daughter, Bridgett (Darik) Barnett of Waynesburg; two stepsons, Dwayne Lee Elam of Berea and Timothy Glen Elam of Mount Vernon; a stepdaughter, Marca (Larry ) Coffey of Berea; two brothers, Denver (Peggy) Simpson Jr. and Michael (Tonia) Simpson, both of Stanford; and three sisters, Linda “Bo” (Bobby) Martin of Crab Orchard, Kim (Marvin) Rogers of Stanford and Rhonda Simpson of Stanford; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. FOLEY, Melvin D. July 09, 1935 - February 23, 2010 Melvin D. Foley, 74, of Kings Mountain died Tuesday at his home. He was born July 9, 1935 in Lincoln County to the late Ed and Ivy Dishon Woodall. He was the widower of Bertie Lee Foley. He was raised by his grandparents the late Willie and Mittie Foley. He was a former bus driver for the Lincoln County Senior Citizens. He was a good friend to many and a good father to his children.

Survivors include his children Gail Cornett (Glenwood), Connie Cornett (Jerry) both of Kings Mountain, Wanda Foley of Danville and Billy Foley of Stanford; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; a special friend Pam Goode; He was preceded in death by 2 daughters Ivy Fletcher and Deborah Foley. GOGGIN, Jennifer Kathleen March 21, 1980 - March 14, 2010 Jennifer Kathleen Goggin, 29, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Stanford, Kentucky, died Sunday at her home. She was born March 21, 1980 in Lincoln County, Kentucky.

Survivors include her parents Sandy Mullins Reyes (Robert) of Knoxville, TN and Carl Goggin, Jr. of Stanford, KY; three sisters Ragan Knuckles (John) of Richmond, KY, Alicia Brambila (Michael) of Bentonville, Arkansas and Maria Fagan (Andrew) of Albuquerque, NM; 2 nieces and 5 nephews. Visitation will be Friday from 5-9 at New Beginnings United Methodist Church, a celebration of life will be at 3 P.M. Saturday at New Beginnings United Methodist Church in Stanford. GOOCH, Raymond July 01, 1929 - March 10 2010 Raymond Gooch, 80, of Kings Mountain, died Wednesday, March 10 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born July 1, 1929, in Kings Mountain, he was a son of the late Lloyd and Grace Trimble Gooch. Gooch was a former employee of National Casket Company in Lancaster. He was also preceded in death by brothers, his twin, Ray Gooch and James and Bobby Gooch; and a sister, Helen Monahan.

Survivors include four brothers, Ralph Gooch of Waynesburg, Paul and John Gooch both of Fairfield, Ohio and Kenneth Gooch of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Lillian Marlett of North Port, Fla., and Mary Holly Thompson of Richmond; Funeral services were March 13 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. GRABELL, Sharon Dewana Reynolds December 15, 1941 - February 25, 2010 WAYNESBURG — Sharon Dewana Reynolds Grabeel, 68, of Eubank, died Thursday. She was a daughter of the late Earl Bradshaw and Louise Stamper Reynolds.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Grabeel; her daughters, Vonia and Traci Grabeel and Diane Stevens; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Grabeel; her brothers, Timmy and Dennis Reynolds; a sister-in-law, Verna Reynolds; a brother-in-law, Clyde Jenkins; five grandchildren, Danny Pachard, Brian Oliver, James Ed Stevens, Greg Stevens and Leslie Godsey; and seven great-grandchildren. HAMILTON, Sarah L. McCormack July 25, 1941 - March 01, 2010 Sarah L. Hamilton, 68, of Martin Luther King Boulevard died Monday, March 1, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center Born Friday, July 25, 1941, in Moreland, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nettie Jones McCormack. She retired as a cafeteria cook from the Danville school system and also worked in the Danville County Club kitchen. Sarah was a member of Church of God of America where she was a former choir member.

Survivors include her husband, James P. Hamilton Jr. of Danville, whom she wed Oct. 5, 1959; a son, James L. (Terry) Hamilton Sr. of Midway; a daughter, Melanie Lynn Hamilton of Danville; sisters, Ann (Robert) Gooch of Junction City and Arnice (Ernest) Gooch of Danville; grandchildren, James L. Hamilton Jr., Thomasina R. Hamilton, Nathanial M. Hamilton, Shareka D. Hamilton, LaSaharah J. Hamilton and Jaron Hamilton; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Doris Richardson Hamilton of Cincinnati, Ohio; a cousin, Juanita Simpson of Danville; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hamilton was predeceased by a sister, Sherline McCormack. HANSEN, Robert March 23, 1937 - September 28, 2009 Robert “Bob” Hansen, 72, of Eubank, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 at University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was born Tuesday, March 23, 1937 in East Chicago, IN. to the late Edward & Ann Resare Hansen. Bob was a retired steel worker for LTV Steel, a US Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a former associate with Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home, a Past Master and duel member of Waynesburg Lodge #328 and Griffith Masonic Lodge F&AM, Scottish Rite, a lifetime member of DAV, a Kentucky Colonel and an official greeter and member of Oak Grove #2 Baptist Church. He will be remembered for his love for children, toys and telling stories. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Linda Rockwell Hansen; and a sister, Ann Evion. He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Slone Hansen of Eubank; a step-daughter, Donna Kuroski and her husband, Jack of Dallas, NC; two grandchildren, Rebecca & Michael Harvey; five nieces and many friends. HARRIS, Hershel E. November 13, 1934 - March 10, 2010 Hershel E. Harris, 75, of the Ottenheim Community, passed away on Wednesday, March 10th, 2010 at his home. Born to Melvin Carl & Katie Mae Harris on Tuesday, November 13th, 1934 in Ottenheim. He married Pansy King on February 21st, 1961. Hershel was a member of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, raised tobacco, peppers and canned pickles. He was also a farmer helping farmers all over the Ottenheim area. He worked at National Casket Factory in Lancaster as Union Steward and also at Caldwell Stone’s rock quarry in Danville. Hershel leaves behind his wife, Pansy, two sons Jerry Harris and his wife Dee Dee of Edinburgh, IN, Hershel Wayne Harris and his wife Tammy of Owenton; a daughter Emily Kay Humphreys and her husband Steve of Louisville; a brother Wallace Harris of IL; three sisters Alice Bonta of Danville, Anna Cooper and Pauline Fawcett both of Independence; Ten Grandchildren; and Nine Great-Grandchildren. Born July 15, 1932, in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Maggie Burdine Bailey. She was a graduate of Stanford High School and a great cook who loved flowers and gardening. She attended McCormick’s Christian Church. Patsy was a seamstress who worked at Palm Beach Co., Cowden Manufacturing and retired from Tillet’s Uniforms.

TURNER, Simmie W. August 27, 1912 - February 03, 2007 Simmie W. Turner, 90, Crawfordsville, died 9:55 p.m. Saturday in Ben Hur Nursing Home. Mr. Turner had worked in the cut room in Dept. C-A at R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. for 34 years, retiring in 1974. He was a civilian cook for the Army during World War II. He was a member of One Way Pentecostal Apostolic Church, where he was an elder, and attended Mount Zion schools. He was born Aug. 27, 1912, in Lincoln County, Kentucky, to Jim and Madie Dowell Turner. He married Helen Kirk in 1937 at Indianapolis. She died in 1983. He married Dama Jo Haltom on Oct. 9, 1983, at Crawfordsville. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Wayne, Crawfordsville, James, Atlanta, Ga., and William, Moscow, Russia; a daughter, Virginia Rommel, Las Vegas, Nev.; three stepsons, Tom Haltom, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tim and Dick Haltom, both of Crawfordsville; two stepdaughters, Kathy Haltom, Crawfordsville, and Vicki Nichols, Ladoga; 13 grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-grandchildren. A son, Gene; a brother, Charles; three sisters, Haley Delk, Rissie Keller and Leona Wilson; and two step grandchildren are deceased.

Funeral services are scheduled 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Powers-Priebe Funeral Home, 315 S. Washington St., Crawfordsville, with the Rev. Clarence Lee officiating.

VONLINGER, Ryllie "Z"Anne August 15, 2004 - March 10, 2010 Ryllie "Z'Anne" Vonlinger, 5, of Stanford, died Wednesday March 10 in Hustonville. Born Aug. 15, 2004, in Danville, she was the daughter of Wayne and Amy Downey Vonlinger of Stanford. She was in the Hustonville Elementary kindergarten class and attended New Salem Baptist Church. Other survivors include a sister, Megan Vonlinger of Junction City; paternal grandparents, Rollie and Donna McWhorter Vonlinger of Moreland; maternal grandparents, Rick and Ann Divine Downey of Perryville; maternal great grandparents, Patsy Downey, Jean Divine and Teddy Divine; uncles, Dwight (Myria) Vonlinger and Eric (Kim) Downey; aunts, Vivian Eades and Lisa (Parrish) Denny; cousins, Madeline Vonlinger, Abby and Jared Downey, Morgan Eades and Olivia, Ellery and Mac Denny. Visitation will be Friday, March 19 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Revs: Jared Moore, Keith Meterhinrich and Bryan Ebel officiating.

WATSON, Ralph William April 30, 1921 - February 10, 2010 STANFORD — Ralph William Watson, 88, of Hustonville, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born Saturday, April 30, 1921, in Lincoln County, he was a security guard for Packard in Detroit, Mich., and attended Harmony Baptist Church in Owen County.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Frances Watson of Hustonville; a step-son, Robert Louis (Brenda) Riddle of Coeburn, Va.; three grandchildren, Darlene Gill, Tara R. Brown and Tanna Riddle; six great grandchildren, Bianca, Andrew, Isaiah, Josiah and Tamil Brown and Taylor N. Nevis; and several cousins.

Funeral services were Feb. 13, at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford.

WHEELER, Larry Joe January 23, 1976 - February 06, 2010 US Air Force Veteran Moreland – Larry Joe Wheeler, age 34, of Hustonville died Tuesday February 9th 2010 in Lincoln County. Born on Friday, January 23rd, 1976, in Danville, he was the son of Gerald “Red Dog” Wheeler of New Salem and Tina Rhea of Junction City. He worked in the Shipping and Receiving Department at American Greetings where he was a member of the Safety and Continuous Improvement Teams. He was a 1994 Graduate of Lincoln County High School, served his country in the United States Air Force and a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was also an avid UK fan, hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents he is survived by two daughters: Cheyenne and Rayna Wheeler both of Stanford and one sister, Sarah Benedict of Junction City. Services will be at 1 PM, Friday, February 12th, 2010 at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home, Moreland with Bros. Kerry Jones and Kyle Young officiating.

WILDER, Anne M. Thompson January 01, 1914 - March 03, 2010 Anna Mae Thompson Wilder, 96 of Stanford, passed away on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 in Danville. Born to the late William Matt & Rhinda Robbins Thompson on Thursday, January 1st, 1914 in Bell County. Anna was a homemaker and wife. Anna’s family includes her daughter Evelyn Wilder of Brodhead, KY; a brother Richard Thompson of Pineville, KY; sisters Leda Orr of Dayton, Ohio, Elsie Gibbons of Pineville, KY; two grandchildren Hank Wilder and his wife Christena of Troy, Ohio and Carolyn Wagner and her husband Leo of Beaver Creek, Ohio; Four Great-Grandchildren and Seven Great-Great-Grandchildren. Anna was preceded in death her parents, a son William Wilder, a daughter Lorene Wilder, and three sisters Nellie Thompson, Martha Wesley & Ethel Thompson.
