left here September 1, 1902 with his brother-in-law, MR. A. A. IGLEHEART, and
went to Texas, where he lived till his death of typhoid fever. His remains were
returned here to be buried in the Smith burying grounds.

MR. J. L. HAYS of WHITESVILLE, died of phthislic at his home on the 19th.

two sons and three daughters. He was the brother of MRS. L. M. WILSON and uncle
of JUDGE J. B. WILSON of HARTFORD, and has been a PROTESTANT METHODIST MINISTER
for many years.

LIZZIE, wife of JOHN TEMPLE, died at LIVERMORE on the 25th of consumption,
leaving her husband and four small children.
MR. S. M. HARDIN died on the
26th at BEECH GROVE, KY. of a stroke.
ALVA WILOUGHBY was shot and killed
by H. O. DAUGHERTY in BAIZETOWN on the evening of the 24th after ALVA had
attacked Daugherty. Daugherty is now in jail awaiting judgment.
MR. V. C. ESKRIDGE and wife PALO have moved to HALE’S
POINT, TENN. to make their new home.
DR. ISAAC SANDERS, one of OHIO
COUNTY’S oldest and most respected physicians, died at his home in FORDSVILLE on
the 28th. of dropsy.
Born to the wife of MR. JOHN V. BRITTON, at Salinas,
Cal. on the 23rd. a fine daughter. Mrs. Britton was the former MISS BIRDIE NALL
of HARTFORD.
MRS. NANCY ALFORD, age 74, of near WHITE RUN, was given a
surprise birthday dinner on the 29th.
MR. J. W. SUTTON, who had left Kentucky in 1877 for OREGON, reports he has
settled in BALLARD, WASHINGTON.
While hunting, THEODORE RILEY, age 14 of
near BACKUSBURG, dropped dead, it is thought he had heart problems.
Little Cliffie, the three month old child of Effie and Lacy DABNEY died on
DECEMBER 19, 1902.

KY: JUDGE HORACE W. ENGLISH died on the 13th at age 67, leaving his wife and 11
children to mourn him.
CHRISTOPER HINES married MISS LAURA MAHANEY on the
16th.
MRS. BENA TALLEY died at the home of her nephew, EMMET GRIFFIN, of
stomach cancer on the 16th. She leaves one daughter, MRS. M. T. WESTMORELAND.

22nd. She was buried in the McHenry Cem.
MR. J. B. KIRK, aged 60, died at
his home near OWENSBORO on the 20th. of heart problems. This is the 3rd of the
KIRK brothers to die of heart problems in the last six months.

JAMES B. JOHNSON, died on FEBRUARY 8, 1903. He leaves his father, two brothers
and one sister. He was buried in the Shiloh burying grounds.
That gallant soldier of the Confederacy, CAPT. ED PORTER
THOMPSON, died on the 4th in FRANKFORD of Lagrippe. He was born near Central,
MEDCALFE CO., KY. on MAY 6, 1834. His father was LEWIS M. THOMPSON of VIRGINIA.
While he was raised on a farm, at age 19 he began teaching school until 1860
when he studied law till the war broke out.

MISS MARY MORRIS, of
JINGO, died on the 8th of consumption and was buried in the MILTON TAYLOR CEM.
MR. P. H. HEFFEY, died on MARCH 3rd in LOUISVILLE where he had begun work in
the I. C. R. R. ROUNDHOUSE. He had only worked three weeks when he was taken ill
of pneumonia. He was born in IRELAND on FEBRUARY 26 1856. He came to America
while young and married MISS ANNIE B. FELIX, daughter of JOHN I. FELIX, in
OCTOBER 1883. He leaves his wife and four children. He was buried in the ST.
LOUIS CEM. He is a cousin of PETER HAFFEY of WHITESVILLE.
MISS NANNIE TANNER, daughter of the late THOMAS TANNER of the
UTICA area, was hit and killed by an electric train in OWENSBORO on the 18th.
She was the sister of MRS. D. F. WHITTAKER of Owensboro.. She was the aunt of
JAMES and SAM TANNER of OWENSBORO and MRS. E. P. THOMAS of HARTFORD.

MR. BARRETT BRATCHER, of BUTLER CO. KY. was run over by a

RUN this county, died suddenly of heart trouble on the 5th. at Whitesville,
where she had gone to the funeral of her daughter, MRS. HENRY JOSEPH. She was
stricken upon alighting from the carriage and died instantly.
MR. EDDIE
DAVIDSON died at the home of his father near Shreve of consumption, he was 31
years of age and was buried in the Roach Cem.
About two months ago, Henry
Jahn, a son of T. Jahn living at Render, left home and his whereabouts could not
be discovered. Diligent search and inquiry was made for him, but without avail.
Saturday, Mr. Jahn was walking past an old mine shaft near his residence when he
discovered the body of his son Henry floating in the water in the shaft. It is
felt he committed suicide by jumping into the shaft.

The DECLARATION of INDEPENDENCE will be placed in
a dark vault and hence-forth hidden from public view. A committee from the
American Academy of Sciences reported to Secretary Hay that the historic
manuscript was fading and advised that it be kept in darkness.
MR. M. L. SUTTON married MISS FRANKIE COOPER in HARTFORD
on the 6th.
MRS. FLETCHER JOHNSON, sister of ALVA TAYLOR and ARCH LEWIS,
died on the 10th. in STURGIS. Her mother was MRS. TAYLOR. She leaves her husband
and a one week old baby.
The planning of an Electric Railroad from
Owensboro to Hartford is still coming together; it will by way of SORGHO,
CURDSVILLE, CALHOUN, then to HARTFORD between NUCKOLS and LIVERMORE.. It’s
capitalized at $600,000 and the work will start this week, and is planned to be
completed in eight months. It is noted that each point of the route must raise
$200,000, plus right of way, for the plan to go forward.
SEBREE, KY. MAY 16th: Eleven year old ROBERT ASHBY, son of JOHN ASHBY, was shot and killed by MRS. MARY WILLIAMS, thinking he was an intruder trying to enter her home. John Ashby, a contractor had rented the home next to Mrs. Williams. On the evening in question Mrs. Ashby and son went next door to spend the evening, the boy running ahead, and banged on the door. Mrs. Williams, being alone, and supposed someone was trying to break in, got her gun, opened the door and fired into the darkness.... All parties are prostrated over the matter as they were on the best of terms before this.
CAPT. HENRY BALLANTINE, one of the oldest, wealthiest and best
citizens of McLEAN Co. has died at his home in Calhoun of Bight’s disease.

George Cox, the 17 year old son of MR. MRS. ALBERT COX of SUPLPHUR SPRINGS, left

are quite concerned for his safety.

The remains of a man was found in a small cave near Echols, on its finger was a ring with the name of JOHN ROARK on it. It is felt this was the JOHN ROARK, who about twenty years ago was a miner at ECHOLS & had difficulty with William Thompson, a weight boss for the Bevier Mines, the result being that Thompson was shot two times, from which he later died and Roark disappeared. His remains were buried in the woods near the cave.

22nd. He was born in England and had been living in ISLAND over 30 years.

area, of old age; he was 87 and leaves several children.

HAYNES, wife of JORDON HAYNES of REYNOLDS, OHIO CO. died at her home on the
25th. She was 86 years of age and was a member of a prominent family. She leaves
her husband and eight children.

BRECKENRIDGE and HANCOCK CO. He leaves his wife and one son and three daughters.

on the 10th and was buried at the cemetery that place. Her husband died several

MR. W. G. HARDWICK, on AUGUST 11th, died at
his home in West Hartford. Billy, as he was known, was born MARCH 8, 1866 and
was 37 years old. He was the brother of CLARENCE HARDWICK. He leaves his wife
and little daughter, and three brothers to mourn him. He was buried in the
Oakwood Cem.
JINGO, KY: MRS. SUSIE PARK, wife of G. M. PARK, died on the
7th. She leaves her husband and 5 little boys to mourn her.

on the 16th of typhoid fever. She leaves her husband and several children.

MR. H. O. SCROATER, who has operated SCROATER FLOATING PHOTO GALLERY for the past
seven years, is reported to have left his wife and children last week, telling
them he was going to COLORADO to set up a new business, and that he would send
for them at that time. It was later learned he had gone to Cincinnati to join
with the former house girl with the intent to marry her. Her name is MISS BESSIE
MARTIN who was born and raised in the ROUGH RIVER area. For some time she had
been living with her uncle MR. W. G. BENTON, who it is reported tried to stop
them from leaving, but to no avail.
MR. CHESTER STEVENS left Monday for
GEORGETOWN, KY. where he enters a theological seminary to study for the
ministry.
MR. K. V. WILLIAMS and MISS S. M. ELLIOT, who married at the
bride’s home in WADESVILLE, INDIANA on the 1st, arrived at MR. WILLIAMS’s home
in BEAVER DAM on the 6th.
MR. & MRS. WEAVER BARNES announce the
engagement of their daughter, MISS NORA, to MR. W. P. B. WOODWARD, both of
HARTFORD. The wedding will be on SEPTEMBER 16th at the bride’s home.
BUD CLARK was killed in ROSINE, OHIO CO.,

MISS BELLE MORTON married MR. S. F. GOODMAN on the
15th, in OWENSBORO. Miss Morton is the daughter of DAVE MORTON, deceased, and
native of this county. MR. GOODMAN is a salesman for BIG SWIFT PACKING CO. of
CHICAGO.
MR. FRANK LONG, of LUZERNE, died on the 13th of flux. His son
had died of the same, last week, they were brought to BEAVER DAM and buried side
by side on the 14th. His last child is also sick of the same disease. His wife
is in mourning.
ROCKPORT: MRS.
SAM GAMBREL died at her home of cancer; she was buried in the RUMSEY CEM. on the
20th. She leaves her husband and 4 sons.
REV. J. C. PETRIE married MISS
AMANDA WALTON at the home of the bride in CORYDON, HENDERSON CO., KY. last week.
MR. JAMES R. WOOD married MISS EFFIE J. LONG in ROCHESTER, KY on the 16th.
The groom is a prosperous farmer of MUHLENBERT CO.; the bride is the daughter of
W. J. LONG, SR., a MAJOR in the 11th KY. REGIMENT.
PROF. E. O. ROSS, who had been teaching a commercial school
MONESSEN, PA. died of paralysis on the 28th. His brother RICHARD ROSS of
HARTFORD and MR. BAKER RHOADS of BEAVER DAM, went to bring the remains back here
for burial. PROF. ROSS was the oldest child of CHRISTOPER and DRUCILLA ROSS, his
father preceded him in death several years.
MR. RAY ADDINGTON married
MISS GRACE REID of SMALL HOUSE in OWENSBORO on the 23rd.
MRS. LAURA BLANKENSHIP, wife of CLAUDE BLANKENSHIP, died at
her home in BEAVER DAM on the 28th. and was buried in the GOSHEN CEM.
MR.
ALEX STOGNER died of heart problems on the 26th at his home near McHENRY. He was
buried in the Chapman Cem.
OWENSBORO,
KY... MR. SAMUEL BOTTOM of LOUISVILLE married MISS WILLIE ALEXANDER at the home
of PROF. WAYLAND ALEXANDER, the bride’s uncle on the 5th, after knowing each
other for six hours.
On the 7th., MRS. ALBERT FULKERSON, with her two
children, was attempting to haul a small load of wood to where her husband was
making molasses near Rockport, Ky. She met with a fatal accident. She had
forgotten to lock the wagon wheel, and in going down a hill the vehicle crowded
the mules and frightened them. Mrs. Fulerson and her children were thrown off
and the wood fell upon them. The mother hastened to release her children not
knowing that she herself was badly hurt, one of her limbs being crushed to a
jelly, besides internal injuries. She died of her injuries on the 9th and was
buried in the Fulkerson Cemetery at Rockport.

SHOULDERS married MISS MYRTLE BISHOP, both of HARTFORD, in EVANSVILLE, IND. on
the 15th.
STANLEY D. DEMPSEY of
ECHOLS was adjudged LUNATIC yesterday and sent to the HOPKINSVILLE, asylum.
MR. JOHN M. LEACH, of BEAVER DAM, was a pleasant caller yesterday

HENRY CARTER married MISS VONA THOMPSON, both of NARROWS, KY. on the 25th on the
L. C. PASSENGER TRAIN at DEANEFIELD.
GOSHEN, KY: NORTH CREEK CHURCH was
dedicated on the 25th.
Mr. ED DOCKERY
of PROVIDENCE, thinking there was a burglar in the house, shot his wife, on the
29th. She will recover.
MT. VENNON, KY NOV. 1: Last night at BRODHEAD,
this county, JOSIAH SUTTON, aged 17, was accidentally shot through the head and
instantly killed while in a Halloween frolic. Horace Benton, age 20, one of
SUTTON’S friends, who thought there were blank cartridge in his pistol, fired
the fatal shot while carelessly handling the weapon. Young Benton was so
overwrought over the affair that he had to be restrained from committing
suicide. He is the oldest son of DR. PERCY BENOTN, a leading physician of this
town.
Aunt ADINA was born OCT 15, 1871. She married ALBERT PATTERSON on
FEB. 25 1903, and died on SEPTEMBER 25, 1903.

living at the home of MRS. MARY NEEL, died on 5th of consumption. She was buried
in the HOPEWELL, CEM.

Infant child of S. HINTON of ADSBURY, died on the 8th and was buried in the BELL’S RUN CEM.
Daughter born to L. M. RENDER of LOUISVILLE, on the 20th,

MR. MRS. D. M. HOCKER has moved to CORBIN, KY.
to make their new home.
MR. R. D. BARNES married MISS MAMIE ELLIS at the
home of the bride’s grandfather and guardian near ROCKPORT, IND. on the 13th.
They returned to Ohio Co. on the 14th where they will be making their home. The
bride for several years has been living with MR. A. C. ELLIS near town and the
groom is the brother of our county attorney MR. W. H. BARNES. (R. D. is MR.

CENTRAL CITY, KY:
NOV. 28.... MRS. W. P. WARREN and MISS MORRIS were fatally burned this morning
by a lamp overturning. Mrs. Warren died at 10:20 a. m. Miss Morris at 12:30
MR. J. H. THOMAS died at his home about 5 miles north-east of HARTFORD of
old age on the 30th and was buried in the LIBERTY CEM.
ALVA TICHENOR, son of L. F. TICHERNOR, died on the 7th. of typhoid fever and was buried in the family Cem.
MISS GRACE TINDER of MADISONVILLE will marry MR. W.Q. ADAMS of
OWENSBORO on JAN. 5th. in MADISONVILLE, IND.
ROBERT B. HINES, a prominent
Bowling Green citizen, dropped dead on the 12th. He was the father of HENRY B.
HINES, State inspector and Examiner.
MISS ANNIE MAY, age 21, died on the
11th, from having her clothes catch on fire in her home in NICHOLS.
MR.
R. R. McLEAN died at his home in BEAVER DAM on the 9th. His remains were taken
to NELSON’S CREEK and buried in the DANKS BURYING GROUNDS ... He leaves his wife
and daughter. Mr. McLean had only been in the area about two years, as he was
born and raised in MUHLENBERG CO. KY.
OLATON, KY: MR. WILLIE SMITH married MISS ADA DANIELS at the home of the
bride’s parents.
MR. JOHN P. DANIEL died at his home in OWENSBORO on the
17th. He formerly lived in OLATON, OHIO CO., KY
MRS. THOMPSON CHICK died
of consumption at her home in BEAVER DAM on the 20th. and was buried in the
Liberty Cem.
MISS MAZIE THOMAS will marry MR. THOMAS WATKINS on the 24th
in HARTFORD.
SMALLHOUSE: ECKLES LANE died on the 17th and was buried in the Equality burying grounds
