Built 1851
A stone in the house marks the year it was built—1851.
Madison C. Johnson bought 6 acres “on the south side of the Versailles Turnpike and High St.” March 28, 1844, from the executors of Richard Higgins, Sr. (Joel Higgins and Richard Higgins, Jr.), and purchased adjoining lots later than year.
In 1851 (stone in house marks date) he had John McMurtry, the architect, build this classical residence in the center of his property, facing High Street.
