Elisha Allen Jr. House

Bolivar St., next to Upper St. cor.

Elisha Allen (the tailor, whose own residence is listed in these tours) bought Lots 11 and 12 from David Megowan and Stephen Chipley in April, 1814, and proceeded to erect this fine old brick house, with its dignified entrance.

The adjoining lots, fronting 70 feet on “Steam Mill St.,” were next to Bile's Upper St. corner and extended back to the “alley.”

Elisha Allen, Sr., conveyed the two lots to Elisha Allen, Jr., in May, 1827—“lots Nos. 11 and 12, containing at this time one two-story Brick house.”

Five years later (1832) Elisha Allen, Jr., and his wife, Susan, “of Franklin County, Ky.,” sold the house to Robert Frazer.

In 1853, Robert Frazer's executors conveyed the property “on Bolivar St., formerly called Steam Mill St.,” to Larkin B. Smith, who bought up other property here.

After Smith's death, the house next to the property “conveyed to Henry Lancaster” (corner) was sold to Daniel McMahan, who died and the deed was made in 1857 to his heirs—James, Susan and Mary McMahan.
