John was born March 6, 1878, Stillwater, Wolfe County, Kentucky, and died June 29, 1964, Butler County, Missouri. He married Sarah Elizabeth Hounshell, who was born April 21, 1885, Breathitt County, Kentucky, and died February 23, 1920, Parma, New Madrid County, Missouri in a influenza epidemic.
His parents were Jacob McReynolds "Jake" Taylor and Sarah E. Dunn Taylor. Her parents were James Franklin "Frank" Hounshell and Fanny Turner Hounshell. They were married on November 25, 1904 in Breathitt County, Kentucky.
