Stamper dies The Rev. McClellan Stamper, 78, died Wed. Jan. 24, 1940 at his home near Beattyville following a brief illness of pneumonia. Funeral was held Friday. For more than 50 years, Bro. Stamper was a minister in the Christian Church and served two years as evangelist of the Second London District. He had preached at Clay City and Vaughn's Mill churches at different times, where he gained many friends who will be saddened at learning of his death. Surviving are his second wife, and twenty children- twelve sons and eight daughters, one of whom is an infant; 75 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. It was said of him that he acted as a Good Samaritan in taking care of the widows and orphans.
