OBITUARY: Prater, Edward, died June 15, 2004 From: vivianmoon@juno.com   Date: June 16, 2004 June 16, 2004 Middletown Journal, Middletown, Ohio Edward Prater Mr. Edward ³Shorty² Prater, 81, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Willow Knoll Nursing Center where he had been a patient for 13 days. He was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Wolfe County, Ky., and had lived in Middletown since 1940. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Prater was a sheet metal worker for the Local 224 for 15 years. He was also the former police chief of Gratis, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Elsie (Dykes) Prater; his wife, Carmel Prater in 1988; a brother, William Holt Prater; and three nephews. He is survived by a daughter, Connie Prater of Middletown; three grandchildren, Yalonda Paxton, Tiffany Paxton and Brittany Paxton, all of Middletown; three great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kole and Kaedon Everett; three sisters, Virginia Gilley, and husband, James, and Elizabeth Burns, all of Franklin, Ohio, and Janet Riegel, and her husband, Don, of Germantown, Ohio; a brother, James Prater, and wife, Carol, of Liberty, Ind.; a niece whom he helped raise, Bonnie Albright, and husband, Phillip, of Trenton, Ohio; and many loving nieces and nephews and too many friends to name, including his McDonald,s friends. ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 18, at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Ken Murphy will officiate.
