TOWNSEND OF HAZEL GREEN DIES JUNE 27 Mattie Townsend, 81, of Hazel Green died Tuesday, June 27, at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lexington after an extended illness. She was born Aug. 27, 1896 at Daysboro, a daughter of the late Alex Nickell and Jane Wills Nickell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Townsend in 1922, by a son, James Cecil Townsend in 1976 and a daughter, Stella Geraldine Townsend in 1942. Survivors are one daughter, Mildred Bertrand of Hamilton, Ohio, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services conducted Thursday, June 28 at 1 p.m. at the Daysboro Church of Christ with Rev. Willie Taylor officiating. Burial in the Hazel Green Cemetery with Herald and Stewart Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The body was taken to the church at 12 o'clock on Thursday where it laid in state until time of services. Note: I believe that the death date of John Townsend is in error.
