Obituary: Spencer, Ellar Adams or Spencer, Susan Ella Adams - Saturday, December 21, 1974 Wolfe County News - Jan. 10, 1975 Submitted by: Carole Bays ********************************************************************** ELLAR SPENCER, DIES DEC. 21 Mrs. Ellar Spencer, 89 of Rogers died Sat. Dec. 21 at her home after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Reynold and Mary Baker Adams and a native of Breathitt County, she was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church of Rogers. She was married to Henry Clay Spencer who preceded her in death. Survivors are three sons, Shelby Spencer, Robie Spencer and Kenneth Spencer all of Rogers; five daughters, Mrs. Bessie Curtis of Mary, Mrs. Mammie Lewis of Pontiac, Mich., Mrs. Ruby Harvey of Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Virgie Gibbs and Mrs. Margie Pelfrey of Dayton, Ohio; 37 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 24 at the Rogers Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Robertson and Rev. Ramer Johnson officiating. Burial was in the family cemetery at Rogers with Porter and Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Carole Note: I have always known Mammie as Esther and Ruby as Bonnie. She was a native of Breathitt County, but had lived in the Rogers community for more than 65 years. She was the daughter of the late Randal and Mary Jane Baker Adams, and widow of the late Henry Clay Spencer. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Survivors are three sons, Shelby, Roby and Kenneth of Rogers, Ky., five daughters, Mrs. Bessie Curtis of Mary; Mrs. Esther Lewis, Pontiac, Mich., Mrs. Bonnie Harvey, Baltimore, Md., Mrs. Vergie Gibbs of Dayton, O., Mrs. Margie Pelfrey, Dayton, O., 38 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Dec. 24 at the Rogers Baptist Mission Church with the Revs. David Robinson, Clell Miller, and Ramah Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Family Cemetery at Rogers.
