John Taulbee, Sr., his 19-year old son, John, Jr., another son, Emerson, 17, and a friend, Ollie Profitt went in swimming in a farm pond belonging to James I. Hollon, Jr., at the edge of Hazel Green, Sunday afternoon. The pond is over seven feet in depth in places. Due to recent thunderstorms the water was muddy. Before John Jr., realized his peril he was in water over his height. Strangled and terror-sticken he called frantically for help. Before his father, who does not swim well, could reach him he sank and did not re-appear. Attracted by their cries for help, others rushed to the scene of disaster. A human chain was formed to probe for the body. About 45 minutes affter it disappeared, (4:15 C.S.T.) Elmer Clark located the body and James Bernard Buchanan dived down and recovered it. Though artificial respiration was applied for sometime life was not restored to the body. Besides his father, John Taulbee, and brother, Emerson, who were with him when he drowned, he is survived by his mother and two other brothers, Everett of California and Taylor of Lacy Creek; also a married sister, Laura, who lives in California and a younger sister who is unmarried and works in Dayton, Ohio. Also his paternal grandmother.
