Obituary: Tolson, Sophie Jane Hollon - Friday, April 1971 Wolfe County News - April 1971 Submitted by: Carole Bays ********************************************************************** MAYTOWN LADY MOTHER OF 11 DROWNS IN WELL A 36 year old Wolfe County woman, mother of 11 children, drowned early last Friday morning in a narrow well at her home at Maytown. Mrs. Sophie Jane Hollon Tolson was found wedged, head own, in the well about 7 a.m. by her husband, James Tolson. Tolson told Wolfe County Coroner Lewis Porter that he had crossed the highway shortly before 7 o'clock to ask a neighbor to drive Mrs. Tolson, who had been ill, to the doctor. As he was returning home, Tolson said, he heard one of their children crying, and upon investigation found his wife's body. He said about 15 minutes elapsed before he and a son were able to extricate the body from the well, and that he then notified the corner. Mrs. Tolson also is survived by eight daughters, Mrs. Jane Ellen Bailey, and Misses Edna Jean, Minnie Fae, Mary Elizabeth, Pearlie Ruby, Burnetta Sue and Genola Tolson, all at home; three sons, Freddie, Wayne and Rex Tolson, all at home; four brothers and three sisters. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the residence. Burial was in the Taulbee Cemetery, Hazel Green. Herald and Stewart were in charge of the arrangements. ******************************************************************** These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
