Obituary: Emily Crain Williams, Jackson Times May 13, 1937 Nov. 18, 2003 Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bays ********************************************************************** Mrs. Emily Crain Williams, 88, one of the oldest and best known women of Eastern Kentucky died at her home on Broadway, Monday night at 9:30,from a week's illness which followed a stroke of paralysis suffered a week before. She had been an invalid for several years. Born in Wolfe County, Feb. 5, 1849, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the late Abraham Ingram. She was married twice, her first husband being William J. Crain. Three children were born to them; two sons, Mitchell S. and J.P. Crain and one daughter, Dora Crain Swango. After his death she married Thomas T. Williams and to this union four children wereborn, two daughters, Lillie William Northrup and Edna William Bach and two sons, twins, Roy and Reed Williams. After the death of Mr. Williams, she moved to Jackson and had made her home there since that time. When about twelve years of age she united with the Methodist church; being a member for more than 75 years. Several years ago Mrs. Williams suffered a broken hip when she fell at her home. Funeral services were held at the family residence Wed. afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. P.F. Adams, pastor of the Methodist church and Rev. J.M. Bemiss, of the Presbyterian church. A choir from the four churches of Jackson sang. The Home of the Soul, No Disappointment in Heaven and Happy Day, her favorite hymns. Interment was made in the family lot in the Marcum Heights cemetery, Ray and Blake, funeral directors, in charge. Seven children, ten grandchildren and one step daughter survives , M.S. Crain, Lexington; J.O. Crain and Mrs. O.H. Swango, Jackson; Mrs. William Northrup and Mrs. Edna W. Bach, both of Jackson; Roy Williams, Lexington and Fred Williams, Richmond and Miss Emma Williams, step daughter. The grandchildren are Evelyn Swango, Elizabeth, June and M.S. Crain, Jr.; Jack, Mary Kathleen and Martha Louise Crain; Claude Childers and Billy Northrup and Lucille Bach. A nephew, County Judge, J.W. Ingram, Campton also survives. Her brother J.B. Ingram of Morgan County died last week at the age of 100.
