Byrd. Last week, Sheriff Byrd had been notified that a stranger had been seen in this vicinity of Wolfe Co., and later he was notified that clothing like that worn by the same man had been found on the banks of Pigeon Roost Fork of Devil's Creek and it was feared that the man might be dead. A search began and word was sent out to try and find out who the man was. Mr. and Mrs. Mary D. McQuinn of Stanton, Ky. a sister of the dead was probably the closest of his kin who saw him alive last; as he had been to visit her just prior to his wandering in Wolfe County. Sheriff Byrd says that his sister claims that Mr. Thacker was perfectly sane and seemingly well when he left home and started to return to his home at Pilot, KY. It is not known what happened but evidence points that something did for he was apparently lost and acted very strangely when talking with people in this vicinity on Sunday, July 9th, the last time anyone saw him alive. His daughter, Mrs. Stella Mays, of Middletown, O., came to Campton and identified the clothing as belonging to her father, on Monday, July 17th, but the body of the deceased was not found till Wed., two days later and ten days after the clothing was found on the banks of the creek. His wife had preceded him in death several years. He leaves two sons; Roscoe and Damon both of Patsey, KY and three daughters: Mrs. Stella Mays of Middletown, O., who identified the clothing, and Stanley and Irene both of whom are married and live in Lexington, Ky. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary D. McQuinn of Stanton, Ky, and Mrs. Sara Chester, Dayton, O., and two brothers, R.L. Thacker of Patsey, Ky., and Lafayette Thacker of Pryce, Ky., several other relatives and a host of friends. ************************************************************************* USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
