Obits: Ratliff, Coercy, died 11/24/1950 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bays ********************************************************************** Wolfe County News, Nov. 29, 1950 COERCY RATLIFF IS KILLED BY ROCK SLIDE FRIDAY While getting coal out of a hillside, Friday afternoon, Nov. 24th, Coercy Ratliff, 40 was killed when a slip came in the hillside and crushed him beneath it on the James I. Hollon farm near Hazel Green. His son, Chester, who was working with him, narrowly escaped with his life. Coercy is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Watkins Ratliff, and ten children, ranging in ages from 14 months, to 17 years. Six of which are boys; Lester, Chester, Sammie, Roy, Elmer and Kash. Four are girls: Garnett, Norma Jean, Juda Kay and Thelma Mae. He leaves to mourn his loss both of his parents, Miles and Fanne Ratliff of Toliver, KY. Five brothers, Joe, John and Green all of Hazel Green, Kelly and Carl of Tolliver, KY. Also four sisters: Mrs. Lillie Stamper, Mrs. Vernice Brewer, both of Toliver, Mrs. Ollie Center of Hazel Green and Mrs. Maude Short of Ezel, Ky. Funeral arrangement were in charge of Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton, Ky. Rev. Roy Benton officiated at the funeral and burial was in the Hazel Green Cemetery, on Monday, Nov. 27th. Coercy was a member of the church and a good reliable citizen.
