Obits: Allen, Leona Rose, d. November 20, 1945 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bayes ************************************************************************ STROKE VICTIM AT HOSPITAL Mrs. Leona Allen, 52 year old wife of Seebern Allen of Stillwater died suddenly of a cerebral hemarrhage at the Ephram McDowell Memorial hospital in Richmond at 6:45, Tuesday morning, November 20. Mrs. Allen was admitted to the hospital a few weeks ago to receive treatment for her eyes, and she was to have been released from the hospital Friday. She and several of the lady patients were discussing the 13th chapter of I Corinthians and Mrs. Allen was quoting it for them when death stilled her voice. Mrs. Allen, a daughter of the late Bowder D. and Nancy Chambers Rose was born at Stillwater in November 1893. She was married to Mr. Seebern Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Allen, in 1915; and they had one child, a son, Seebern Jr., who is serving with the Air Corp in Casa Blanca. They tried repeatedly to get in touch with the son, but could not. Funeral services were conducted at the home Friday afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. H.H. Patton, pastor of the Park Methodist church of Lexington officiating. After the funeral they decided to let her body lay in state, and try again to locate the son. Deciding it was useless to try to contact him, they had funeral services again at the residence Sunday afternoon at 1:00 with Rev. Sam Sloan, pastor of the Baptist church in Campton, in charge. Pallbearers were Boyd Cundiff and Mr. Nickel of Lexington and her brother-in-law, Leebern Allen, Cleveland Allen, Freeland Allen, Bill Allen, Kelly Combs, George Haney and Walker Haney. In the beautiful floral offerings and the large crowds of relatives and friends that came to pay tribute at both services were evidence of the esteem held for Mrs. Rose. In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Childers of Lexington, Mrs. Elizabeth Combs of Ravenna, Mrs. Millie Haney of Grassy Creek, Mrs. Joan Haney of Grassy Creek, and Mrs. Dora Hollon of Monrow, Ohio; and a brother, Elishia Rose of Edna, Texas. Interment was in the Rose cemetery at Stillwater. ************************************************************************* USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
