MORT, d., 1945 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bayes ************************************************************************ FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR J. MORT ROSE Last rites for J. Mort Rose, 66 year old former Jailor of Wolfe County, who died Saturday morning at 5:00, were held Sunday afternoon at 1:00 o'clock at the home in Campton with Rev. Sam Sloan, pastor of the Campton Baptist Church in charge. Mr. Rose suffered a heart attack Thrusday morning at 6:00 o'clock and his family was summoned. He seemed to be improving and was able to talk until a few minutes before his death which was caused by a ______ attack Saturday morning. The Rose family had sold their property in Campton and had all the furnishings except one load moved to their new home near Cincinnati. Mr. Rose had stayed here to make final arrangements. Mr. Rose, son of the late Jeff M. and Sarah Rose, was born August 17, 1879 at Stillwater. When a young man, Mr. Rose went to Oklahoma to visit an uncle. There he met and married Miss Ruth Crutchfield in 1906. He served as sheriff in Oklahoma before returning to Wolfe County. He was elected Jailor of Wolfe county in 1921 and was re-elected for four years when his term expired. The large floral offering banking the room and many friends attended the funeral showed the esteem for Mort who always had a cheery greeting for everyone. Surviving relatives include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Rose; two daughters, Mrs. Lewis De Burk and Mrs. Herman Hubbard of Covington; one son, Charles, who was recently discharged from the army and lives with his parents, one grandson, Charles Delbert Connely who also resides with his grandparents; one sister, Brilla Rose of Stillwater; and three brothers, J.M. Rose, Robert Rose and J.K. Rose; all of Stillwater. Internment was in the Rose cemetery at Stillwater under the direction of Hearne Funeral Home of Stanton. (Note: I didn't get the date of this paper, it was in the fall of 1945. I looked in the Death Index and found a John M. Rose who died Oct. 27, 1945 Wolfe county, which could be this person.) ************************************************************************* USGENWEB ARCHIVES NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
