EMMA J. BYRD DIES AUGUST 28th Mrs. Emma Jane Byrd, who was 80, on last March 30th, 1950, passed away at her home in Campton on August 28, 1950 very suddenly. She was the daughter of the late W.W. and Sarah Lacy and the wife of R.L. Byrd, also deceased. For many years she was a member of the Congregational Church. She is survived by three daughters, Miss Nellie Byrd of Campton, with whom she lived, Mrs. Kathryn Lohman, Pawhuska, Okla, and Mrs. Mattie Williams, Paintsville, Ky. Also three sisters remain to mourn her loss; Mrs. Mattie Sewell, Campton, Mrs. Allie Reynolds, Campton, and Mrs. Price Garrison, Irvine, Ky. Eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Campton Methodist Church on August 30th at 2 p.m. with Rev. Joseph Lewis officiating and Hearne Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements and burial which followed immediately in the Evans Cemetery. ************************************** Mrs. Emma J Byrd's maiden name was Steele, and was my great aunt. She was the daughter of William Wylie Steele b. 1847 d. 1908, and Sarah "Sally" Lacy. Mrs. Mattie Sewell, the wife of Porter Sewell, also a dau. of W. W.I remember them both clearly. Aunt (great) Mattie lived until 1968. She wrote the Steele ancestry for the original "Early and Modern History of Wolfe County".
