Obits: Abner, Kenneth, died 03/08/ 1949 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bays ********************************************************************** Wolfe County News March 18, 1949 INJURIES FATAL TO KENNETH ABNER Injuries received in an accident on March 5 proved fatal three days later to Kenneth Abner, 33, prominent businessman and post master of Vada. He died in a Lexington hospital where he was taken after the accident. A son of the late J.H. and Doll Drake Abner, he had opereated a store at Vada for the past 10 years and had served as post master in that community. He was also engaged in the trucking business and operated a farm there. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edna Stamper Abner, whom he married October 12, 1940, and two sons, Charles Ray and Arthur Coleman, a daughter, Jeanette Lee, three sisters, Ila Ray Barnes, Mila Vern Abner and Nola Thomas, all of Vada; and a brother Vaughn Abner, also of Vada. Mr. Abner suffered fatal injuries when a pulley wheel exploded and a piece of steel struck him in the head, causing a brain concussion. Interment was on March 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the Abner Flat cemetery following services at the Christian church conducted by the Rev. Sam Wilson and J.H. Hieronymous. Congleton Bros, were in charge. Carole NOTE: at the time of Kenneth's death, Doll Drake Abner was very much alive, she lived to a ripe old age. ******************************************** Dates listed on Kenneth's headstone in the Lutes Cem. on Abner Flats are 2 Dec 1915 - 8 Mar 1949. He's buried along side his parents - John Henry ABNER 14 Nov 1886 - 16 Nov 1947 Doll Drake ABNER 1893 - 1988 (you were right Carole ) Next to him on the other side is a stone for Edna E. Stamper Abner with only her birthdate listed. She may still be alive so I won't post this date. I do have her listed as the d/o George Stamper (1894-?) & Justine Brewer (1896-1971). Edna is listed in her mother's obit as Edna ABNER so she either hadn't remarried or she married someone else named Abner later on.
