TRUCK KILLS COUNTIAN AFTER SON'S FUNERAL

A 65 year old retired Wolfe County farmer was killed instantly when hit 
by a truck in front of his home on Trace Fork, Wolfe County, Dec. 30, 
just after his return from his son's (Ray Dickey's) funeral.

J. Weed Dickey, a former employee of the Veteran's Hospital, Lexington, 
was struck by a truck as he walked around his car preparing to go to 
Lexington, where his wife is a patient in the Julius Marks Sanitarium, 
and was killed instantly.  The accident occurred in front of his home on 
Highway 15.  His son, Ray Dickey, lost his life in a car wreck on 
highway 15 at the eastern edge of Campton on December 27.

The driver of the truck which struck the elder Dickey down was 
identified by Wolfe County Judge C.W. Murphy as James Haven, about 25, of 
Morgan county.  Judge Murphy said that Haven was arrested and placed in jail 
on manslaughter charges awaiting a hearing which will probably be today 
(Monday)

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Dalton at the Rosedale 
Church, Sunday morning at ten thirty for the elder Mr. Dickey.  Burial was 
in the Brewer Cemetery on Holly.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Owen Atkinson, Lexington; 
two brothers, Robert Dickey, Campton; and George Dickey, Bethany, and a 
sister, Mrs. Belle Banks, Campton.

Funeral services were conducted at the Brewer Cemetery in Wolfe County, 
Thursday, Dec. 30 at ten thiry a.m. for Ray Dickey, 23, son of Mr. and 
Mrs. J. Weed Dickey of Wolfe County, who lost his life in a car wreck 
on December 27.

He was survived, besides his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Weed Dickey, by his 
wife, Mrs. Rosie Dickey, a four year old son, Ray Dickey, Jr. and a two 
year old daughter, Carolyn Sue.  Also a sister, Mrs. Owen Atkinson, 
Lexington.

Hearne Funeral Home had charge of burial arrangements.
