Obits: Hatton,Corbett Ray, died 01/25/1951 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bays ************************************************************************ WOLFE COUNTY NEWS, JANUARY 31, 1951 ONE DEAD, 5 INJURED AS A RESULT OF ACCIDENT NEAR HERE Little Corbett Ray Hatton, age 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Hatton of Landsaw, died in Winchester hospital on Thursday, January, 25, as a result of injuries received on Monday, January 22, at Meadow Branch Curve about two miles south east of Campton, when the car in which he was riding collieded with a truck. The car; a 1941 Buick sedan, held five passengers, all of which were injured, three seriously. Mrs. Melvin Banks was driving at the time of the accident. Other occupants of the car were her husband, Melvin Banks, Lillie Mae Harris, in her early teens, of Campton, Mrs. Arbury Hatton of Landsaw and her grandson, Corbett Ray Hatton, who died Thursday. The car was completely demolished. The truck was driven by Clyde Carpenter of Springfield, O., and belonged to Bundy Incubator Co., 300 N. Greenmont Ave., Springfield, Sheriff G.C. Byrd of Campton says the truck driver claimed his wheels locked when he tried to make Meadow Branch Curve, due to the slippery pavement. Carpenter was placed under arrest on a voluntary manslaughter charge and later relased under a $5,000 bond. He will go before the Grand Jury at the April term of court. Bond for Carpenter was posted by the Bundy Incubator Co. All passengers were covered by insurance up to $25,000.
