Obits: Nickell, America Elizabeth Davis, died 08/21/1954 Oct. 2002 Wolfe County, KY Submitted by: http://www.rootsweb.com/~archreg/vols/00001.html#0000062 Wolfe County Genealogy and Carole Bays ************************************************************************ Wolfe County News - Sept. 1, 1954 WIDELY RELATED MORGAN NATIVE DIES IN WOLFE America Elizabeth Nickell, passed away at her home at Helechawa, KY., in her 91st year, Saturday, August 21, 1954 at 9:30 p.m. She was born at Insko, in Morgan County, February 12, 1863, a daughter of the late William R. and Elizabeth Wilson Davis, a pioneer Eastern Kentucky family. She was the last surviving member of a family of five. Two brothers, James A. Davis and Henry Wise Davis and two sisters, Kaherine Davis Gullett and Mary Davis Prater proceded her in death. Early in life she was converted baptized and became a member of the United Baptist Church at Insko, of which she remained a faithful and devout member thru and during her lifetime. On August 6, 1879 she was united in marriage to James Harlan Nickell (deceased), and to this union were four four sons. The eldest, Boyd Nickell, died at the age of three years. Surviving are her sons, E. Morton Nickell, Milan, Ind.; John T. Nickell, Helechawa, Ky.; and Donnie T. Nickell, Ashland, Ky.: seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends, to all the latter she was affectionately known as "Aunt America." Funeral was held at the residence, Monday, August 23. Acting pallbearers were Hargis Arnett, Jack Arnett, Sterling Bradley, C.P. Gullett, B.H. Gullett, Walton Jones, Joe Nickell and Rolly Prater. Officiating ministers wre Revs. Harlan Murphy, West Liberty; Willie Taylor of Fixer, and F.P. Wilson, Helechawa. Special music was furnished by a quartet composed of Inez Collinsworth, Carl Lacy, Sterling Bradley and Talmadge Lacy.
