Obituary: Smyth, James Donald - Tuesday, December 8, 2009 Submitted by: Carole Bays ********************************************************************** SMYTH, James Donald of Campton, Ky., husband of Virginia Bryant Smyth, departed this life Dec. 8th, 2009 at the age of 87 years and 7 days. He was a son of the late Edward Walter Sr. and Myrtle Hall Smyth, born in Lee County, Ky. on Dec. 1st, 1922. He was a retired Supervisor of the Zincgrip Maintenance Department at Armco Steel and attended The Bearpen Community Church in Campton, Ky. Previously he was an Elder, Deacon and Sunday School teacher at St. Luke United Presbyterian Church in Middletown. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a kind and gentle soul. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Bryant Smyth of Campton, Ky., two daughters, Deborah Kay (Donald) Mitchell of Franklin; and Tonya Rhea (John) Wertheimer of Los Angeles, Ca.; one step-daughter, Sue Bryant Taulbee of Winchester, Ky.; one brother, Gary Smyth of Beattyville, Ky.; five sisters, Delilah Hall, Gladys Gross, and Shirley Hall all of Irvine, Ky., Gertrude Edwards McGee of Mt. Sterling, Ky., and Ann Childers of Lebanon; one grandson, Eric James Smyth Mitchell; one step-grandson, James Taulbee; and four step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years and the mother of his children, Grace Lucille Malone Smyth; and three brothers, Edward Smyth Jr., Benjamin Smyth, and Gerald Smyth. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends. Services will be held Sat. Dec. 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Porter & Son Funeral Directors Chapel in Campton, Ky. with Rev. David Spencer officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Additional services will be held Sat. Dec. 12, 2009 at 4 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church Chapel in Middletown with Rev. Charles Denny officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. Pallbearers are Don Mitchell, William Childers, John Wertheimer, Edward Smyth III, Chris Childers, and William Childers, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are Lee Rose, Jeff Barker, Charles Caldwell, Lester Sweeney, Frank Yeager, Bill Campbell, Bryan Luke, Lawrence Cox, Lee Hick, and Roger Cecil.
