Obituary: Hobbs, Daniel Clay - Friday, April 3, 1981 The Beattyville Enterprise - 1981 Submitted by: Carole Bays ********************************************************************** D.C. (Daniel Clay) Hobbs, Lee County merchant and farmer, died Friday, April 3, after a short illness. He had lived in Ravenna with his daughter for the past ten years. Born at Flat, Kentucky, on March 23, 1883. Clay was the youngest son of Granville Henderson and Paulina Shoemaker Hobbs. He married Viola Hieronymus on March 26, 1919. She preceded him in death by 15 years. After teaching in a one-room Wolfe County School for three years, Clay joined G.H. Hobbs and Co., at St. Helens in 1907. He kept his general store open until blindness forced him to close in 1971. He was a member of the New Springs Methodist Church. He is survived by two daughters; Sally Raye Hill, Ravenna; and Danny Jean Williams, Dayton, Ohio; a son George Henderson Hobbs, Petersburg, Virginia; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Newnam Funeral Home on Monday, April 6, 1981 with the Rev. Sam Wilson officiating.
