Free local genealogy resources preserved by KYGenWeb volunteers
Taylor County was established in 1846 from portions of Green and Adair counties and was named for Zachary Taylor, hero of the Mexican-American War and later the twelfth president of the United States. The county seat, Campbellsville, developed as a regional trade and milling center during the nineteenth century, serving an agricultural population centered on livestock, corn, and tobacco. Records in Taylor County often reflect family migration routes through surrounding south-central Kentucky counties.
Tip: If a family disappears from Taylor County records, check surrounding counties and nearby county seats for marriages, deeds, probate, and court cases.

In 1996, Kentucky volunteers organized a statewide, county-by-county effort to preserve and share local genealogy resources. Taylor County is part of that free, volunteer-run network.
