STAPP, Achilles

Of Scott County, Kentucky, who was a private in the Company commanded by Capt. Spencer of the Regt. commanded by Col. Woodford in
the Virginia Line for two years from 1776.
Inscribed on the roll of Kentucky at the rate of 80 dollars per annum to commence on the 4th day of March 1834.
Certificate of pension issued the 5 day of October 1832 and sent to Hon. R. M. Johnson, Georgetown.

Ann Stapp the widow of Achilles Stapp was inscribed on the roll of Kentucky at 80 dollars per annum to commence on 3rd February 1853
Certificate of Pension issued the 17th day of Sept '53 and sent to ___Ellis.

Achilles Stapp was born December 22, 1755 in Orange County, Virginia
While a resident of Orange County he enlisted on March 2, 1776 and served two years as private in Capt. Joseph Spencer's Virginia Company.
He was in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown.  He also served four tours in the Orange County Militia under Capt. Toliver Craig and one
under Capt. Ben Johnson.  He was allowed a pension executed August 20, 1832, at which time he resided in Scott County, Kentucky.  His
name as added to pension roll as Achilles Slapp and Stapp.  Soldier died in Scott County, Kentucky 4th September 1849.
The soldier married in Scott County, Kentucky in December 1813 to Ann, maiden name not given by James Suggett.
Ann Stapp, the widow was allowed pension on her application April 6, 1853 in Scott County, Kentucky. In 1853 she gave her age as seventy two
years, but did not give date and place of birth.  She was allowed 150 acres of bounty land.

In 1853, Martha M. Griffin and Sarah W. Martin witnessed the widows signature in Scott County, KY.  In 1855 Asa Branham and Daniel Hancock
residents of Scott County were present when she made application for bounty land.
