Fred Catron left last week for Kansas City, Mo., where he has accepted a position in one of the leading drug stores in that city.

The many friends of Thomas Prather were glad to see him down town this week.  He is just recovering from a very serious operation.

J .D. Erskine, merchant and coal operator, of Barren Fork, was in the city this week on business.

W.D. Brown and family have just returned from an extended visit with
relatives in Galveston and other points in Texas.  They report a most
enjoyable trip.

Mrs. Delia McGee has returned from a visit with relatives at Campbellsville.

Mrs. H.L. Fancher and two children, Miss Harvey and Master Richard, are visiting her sisters, Mrs. Geo. P. Sallee and Miss Elizabeth Harvey.

Jim Harvey, of Wilmington, N.C., is visiting homefolks for a few days.  Mr. Harvey is now engaged in Sunday School work in the South and likes it very much.

Oak Hill.   Mrs. Lula Mitchel and little son, Bernard, spent one day last week with Mrs. Phelps of West Somerset .. Mrs. Lula Frisbie spent one evening last week with Mrs. Relda Claunch .. Miss Mae Frisbie was the guest of Mrs.
Sam Cowan Saturday afternoon … Misses Rendye Nicholas and Angie Neeley were the guests of their grandmother Sunday … Mrs. Lula Frisbie, Mrs. Nan Gholson and Mrs. Lucy Lorton were the Sunday guests of Mrs. John Neeley … Miss Mildred Barnett visited Ira Frisbie Sunday … Mrs. Delia Flynn of Quinton, Ky., is visiting relatives here … Robert Tucker visited at Jim Will New's Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Curtis of Stearns spent Sunday in the city.

Mrs. Thomas M. Thatcher spent the first of the week in Cincinnati.

Mrs. Logan Wood has returned to Danville after a visit with her sister Mrs. J.E. Claunch.

Rev. White pastor of the Methodist Church, left this week for Kansas City, Mo., where he will consult a specialist about his little daughter who has been ill.

Manager C.H. Moore of the Gainesboro Telephone Co., left yesterday for an automobile trip to Bowling Green, and Nashville, Tenn.  Mr. Moore is interested in several oil companies in that section.

Mr. and Mrs. Simco Dockery and children of Somerset were the guests of Mrs. Dockery's sister, Mrs. B.O. Shearer last week. (possibly Monticello Outlook)

Kendall of Ohio has accepted a position as head bookkeeper at the Cumberland Grocery Co., and will soon move his family here … Mrs. Upton of Bowling Green is the guest of her daughter Mrs. Heber Lewis at the Seven Gables Hotel … Mr. and Mrs. Frank Evans of Danville was called to Burnside last week on account of the illness and death of their sister Mrs. M.W. Spradlin … Mrs. E.B. Chitwood has returned from Louisville and will have her same position as manager of the Gainesboro Telephone Co. … Mrs. E.V. Nash of Sulligent, Ala., is the guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. G.E. Smith … Mrs. M.W. Spradlin died at her home on Grandview Ave. Friday afternoon after a long illness.  Mrs. Spradlin lived in Burnside most of her life, her true Christian character and happy companionship will be missed much in the community.  Rev. M.J. Dick, pastor of the Christian Church, of which she was a member, conducted the funeral and then the Eastern Star Lodge held a very impressive ceremony at the grave.  The many beautiful flowers gave expression of her many friends.  Mrs. Spradlin is survived by a husband, mother, Mrs. Lizzie Evans, and two brothers … Misses Mary Isabelle Clubb of Pleasureville and Ruth Kridler of McAlester, Okla., are the attractive guests of Mrs. Frank Sloan … Miss Francis Rankin of Washington, D.C., is the delightful guest at the home of John Sloan … Miss Effie Denney of Lexington spent the week with Miss Ollie Vanhook .. Dr. K.C.D. Watson is in Florida this week … Ed Lee of Monticello was in town Sunday … Mrs. Ethel Davis and R.L. Short of Oakdale were married Monday evening by Rev. A.C. Taylor.  Their many friends wish them much success and happiness.  Mr. and Mrs. Short left Tuesday to make their home … Wm. McLain has accepted a position as gate keeper at the station crossing … Mr. and Mrs. Ed Buchanan and family left Thursday for their new home in Ashland.  Mr. Buchanan has accepted a position as head bookkeeper with a steel corporation there.  He has been with the Cumberland Grocery Co., for a number of years and has been a valuable citizen.  He and his family will be missed much in town.  Their friends wish them much success in their new undertaking … The Burnside ball team played Monticello Saturday afternoon at Monticello.  The opponent team winning by a score of 14 to 1.  The first game they have lost this season.  On Sunday the Yamacraw team met them here on their own ground for a match.  The game was won by the Burnside team by a score of 10 to 1.  The boys are in fine shape and are doing good playing.

Cave Hill.  A large crowd attended church at Mt. Hope Sunday .. Newt Smith and family of Eubank spent Sunday at Elmer Burton's .. Dwight McDonald visited her mother Mrs. Lizzie Higgins Sunday .. James Estes and wife of Buncombe spent Saturday night at their daughter's Mrs. Maud Smith … Alonzo Estes and family visited at G.S. Smith's Sunday … Chester Wilson visited Claud Wilson Sunday.

Ringgold.  Miss Mae Williams visited here Saturday and Sunday … Miss Ethel Spears spent Sunday night with her sister Mrs. V. Wilson … Mrs. W.R. Jasper is suffering with a sprained foot … Virgil Waddle and wife entertained quite a large crowd Thursday night.  They are leaving for Illinois to make their future home … Misses Hattie Jasper and Mae Williams and Luther Baker and Clare Hinkle attended the Sunday school convention held at Camp Ground Sunday … F. Shadoan and wife of Salem visited at Arling Jasper's Saturday night … Misses Bertha and Hazel Padgette spent Sunday night with friends here … The Sunday school is still progressing nicely here .. Miss Della Owens who has been staying with her sister at Somerset is now at home … Miss Bessie Keith is very sick at this writing … John Keith is suffering with rheumatism … Mrs. A. Baker and family visited at Doc Ashley's Sunday … W. Pryor is some better at this writing.

Delmer.  Albert Clifton is very sick at this writing .. Hazel and Glenn Muse were the guests of Beatrice Fitzgerald Sunday … Alice Hislope visited A. Fitzgerald Sunday .. Little Edward Godsey is very ill with typhoid fever … Rev. C. Trimble and Rev. Roberts visited C.M. Brown and wife Thursday … Ray Hislope visited Rupert Hislope Wednesday night .. Edna Floyd has been very ill.

Mr. I. Harkins has returned to Hendersonville, N.C., after a business stay of a month in the city.  He will return in September to be here while Mr. and Mrs. Morris Harkins enjoy a vacation trip east.

Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Inman of Atlanta, Ga., arrived last Saturday for a short visit with Mr. Inman's mother.  Tom is now traveling accountant for the American Railway Express Co.  He returned to Atlanta Monday but Mrs. Inman remained for a longer visit.

Mr. and Mrs. George Bertram and little daughter Dorothy left Sunday for North Carolina for Mr. Bertram's health.  They expect to be away about two months. (possibly Monticello Outlook).

Hays and wife left Thursday for a fishing trip on the Cumberland River … Clay Singleton and Bennie Reynolds returned to New Philadelphia, Ohio, after a pleasant visit with relatives and friends here … Ashland Singleton who has been visiting his mother, will stop here Friday and visit his sister, Miss Alice Singleton, who will accompany him to his home in West Virginia … Miss Eva Green is visiting her cousin Mrs. E.L. Gooch, of this place … Miss Mable Acton is visiting relatives in Estesburg this week … Miss Alene Godby visited homefolks this week at Pulaski, Ky. … Ira Tilford returned home Thursday .. A revival meeting is being conducted at the Baptist Church … Miss Berdena Gooch returned home Sunday after a months visit with relatives and friends in Crab Orchard …

The remains of Miss Oda Taylor were brought here Thursday for burial in the Eubank cemetery.  The body was accompanied from Ludlow, Ky., by mother, father, two sisters, one brother and several friends.  Our greatest sympathy is extended to the entire family in their great loss.  Miss Oda was only 27 years of age and a devoted Christian, becoming a member of the M.E. Church at the early age of twelve.  The funeral services were conducted by Revs. G.W. Tilford and George Thompson.

Waterloo.  This community was greatly shocked Monday, July 26th, by the death of William Griffin of this place.  He was found dead in bed early Monday morning.  He leaves a wife, one son and one daughter.  He was laid to rest in the Second Piney Grove graveyard
