Photo left: Perry County, Kentucky, during the 1940s. The local grocery store serves as more than just a place to pick up provisions. It is a hub of community life.
Inside, a man with weathered hands strums his instrument with practiced ease, his voice carrying the melodies of the mountains. Children gather to listen, and neighbors pause mid-errand, drawn in by the music. In moments like this, an ordinary storefront becomes a shared space for joy, memory, and connection.
