Report of the Board of Tax Supervisors. Falmouth KY May 22, 1879
Hon. W.J. Perrin
We have carefullly examined the tax books for 1879 and have been in session 7 days; our session having been longer from the following causes. First, we had completed the revision according to the usual method and were preparing to reture, when we were informed of a statute change that makes a revision of our work necessary. On acting on such direction, and changing the books accordingly, our attention was drawn to a special act, the very latest, referring to a notification of those whose lists were to be affected, which made another alteration necessary. We had the assistance of the Assessor during the first two days. The large reduction in the Assessors valuation of real estate in Comparison with last year and our belief that such reduction was not warranted by the depreciation in land value, compelled us to raise more lists than it has been usual to raise, while we have in a few instances made a reduction when we found that justice required it. We placed the list of changes in the hands of the Sheriff on the 16th inst, directing that the parties by notified to meet the ervisors on the 22 inst, on which day we met and heard explanation from those in attendance. Finding that there were no returns from four districts, we adjourned until Monday, the 26th inst, when we finally adjourned.
