McLean County, KYGenWeb

Located in Western Kentucky, McLean County was formed 28 Jan 1854 from Daviess, Ohio, and Muhlenberg counties. The county was named for Alney McLean (1779-1841), a veteran of the War of 1812 and United States Representative from Kentucky. He was the founder of Greenville, the county seat of Muhlenberg County. In 1784, Solomon and Henry Rhoads built a fort at Rhoadsville, the town which became known as Fort Vienna and then Calhoun, named for circuit judge and Congressman, John Calhoun. Calhoun is the county seat and was the boyhood home of Senator John Rowan, builder of the house of "My Old Kentucky Home" fame.

Other cities, towns and communities in the county include Beech Grove, Buel, Buttonsberry, Cleopatra, Comer, Congleton, Elba, Island, Glenville, Guffie, Lemon, Livermore, Livia, Nuckols, Pack, Poverty, Semiway, Wrightsburg, and Wymon.
