J. NELSON: One of the oldest residents of West Van Lear, John Wesley Nelson, passed away at his home on December 6. The 96-year-old retired C & 0 Railroad employee and Freewill Baptist had suffered a brief illness.

The son of the late Isaac and Susann Lynns Nelson, he was born in Lawrence County .

Surviving are his wife, Bessie Harmon Nelson, four sons, Ernest Nelson of Louisa, Charlie Nelson of Beckley, W.Va., and John and Joe Nelson of West Van Lear, and a daughter from Portsmouth, Ohio, Mrs. Myrtle Stapleton.

Don Fraley and Claude Preston held services December 9 in the First Freewill Baptist Church , and interment followed in the family cemetery at Paintsville. The Jones Preston Funeral Home was in charge.

He was buried on December 9, 1970 in Nelson Family Cemetery, Paintsville, Johnson Co., KY.

This cemetery may have once been known as Turkey Knob. Jones Preston Funeral home in Paintsville was in charge of the arrangements.

He was a C&O Railroad employee for many years in Paintsville, Johnson Co., KY.

Mrs. O�Neal was a member and active worker of the Unity Baptist Church at Ashland and was superintendent of the Beginner�s Department of the Sunday School. She was born in Paintsville , Ky. , August 30, 1894 , a daughter of John Wesley and Caldona Martin Nelson, who now reside at West Van Lear, Ky. Funeral services were held Sunday, at the Unity Baptist Church with the Rev. L. H. Tipton, pastor, officiating. Burial was made in the Rose Hill Burial Park at Ashland .
