This indenture made & entered into this 20th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & twenty eight by and between Thomas Reid of the County of Laurel and State of Kentucky of the one part & James Reid of the County of Madison & State aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Thomas Reid for and in consideration hereinafter mentioned & for the further consideration of one dollar to him in hand paid the receipt whereof he does hereby acknowledge, hath granted, bargained & Sold & by these presents, hereby, grant, bargain & Sell, unto the said James Reid & his heirs, two Negro Slaves (to wit). One by the name of Parlton(? or Partton?) aged about 21 or 2 years of age, the other by the name of John aged about 15 years of age. Also his interest in the Slaves of his Father John Reid Dec'd., now in the possession of his mother for her support & in the personal Estate of his Mother Mary Reid. To have and to hold to the said James Reid & his heirs & assigns in Mortgage Nevertheless. The condition of the above is such that Whereas the said Thomas Reid stands indebted to the said James Reid by note dated 7th March 1825 for $38.42 cts in Silver due one day after date. Also by note Same date for $139 in Commonwealth bank paper due one day after date. Also for $44 by note dated 21st June 1828 payable 28th day of Decem'r 1828. Also for $95.81 by note dated 21st June 1828 payable 2 days after date. Now if the said Thomas Reid Shall well & truly pay the said James Reid said Several Sums of money with the interest thereon, then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force & Virtue.

James Reid was produced to me on the day of the date hereof & acknowledged by
said Thomas Reid to be his act & deed for the purposes therein mentioned & the
same is duly recorded. Given under my hand the 24th day of November 1828.
