1899 School Census

School District 16

The different school districts made an inventory of school age children, their birth date, their age from 6 to 20, sex, address and parents in 1899. This is a listing of children eligible to attend school in a particular area. The inventory is in one book that is similar in size as the deed books. It is somewhat hard to read in places. I used the 1900 census to supplement some information. When I first saw the book it was in the basement. Later, it was in the Circuit Clerk's office at Hodgenville. The last time I looked for it I could not find it. The birth dates and ages are in some cases suspect and don't agree with the census or other records. Use this document to get an idea of the neighbors and peers of your ancestors. � Ed Benningfield
