Sent: Saturday, October 11, 2003 6:16 AM >From the Danville Advocate Messenger, 10 July 2002 STANFORD -- Services for Edward "Ed" James Gooch, 79, of Stanford will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Floyd Raglin. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. He died Tuesday at his home. Born June 29, 1923, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Elmer and Josephine Montgomery Gooch. He was owner and operator of Ed Gooch Slaughter House for 40 years and was a self-employed house painter for many years. He was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church and a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Lottie M. Garr Gooch; a son, Edward E. Gooch of Stanford; two daughters, Carolyn A. Gooch of Stanford and Jo Alice Johnson of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a sister, Anna Catherine Tucker of Detroit, Mich.; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers will be David Penman, Hershel Penman, Clarence Gooch, Jeff Gooch, Glen Gooch and Bobby Wilkinson. Honorary pallbearers will be James Welch, Donnell Simpson, Troy Gooch, Wayne Masterson, Robin Brown and Sam Gooch. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at Spurlin Funeral Home.
