The Edna Cox Moses Family
By
Edna Cox Moses (1982)
The Cox
family moved to Bon in 1919. Edna, wife of Harvey John Moses, was the daughter
of George Washington Cox and Floria Oliver Cox
(who was the daughter of Squire Franklin Oliver and Aley (?) Stanfield Oliver.
Edna
went to Bon Jellico School; her teachers were Bryan Johnson and Bea Steiner. “I
went to my first box supper at Bon to help the school. I was too young but
Mother was a good cook and made cakes and pies for the girls for the box
suppers.” I
remember the pot bellied stove and drawing water from a well at school. I also
carried milk and butter to lots of the families in the Bon Hollow before I
went to school. I remember seeing where the snakes crossed the road to
drink out of
Brian Creek (the roads were dirt roads) and we lived near Grandpa Olivers farm
which was a mile from Bon Holler and from the school at the foot of Jellico
Creek Mountain where Aunt Bertha White still owns; but the log house is
gone.”
